• The Biden Administration created the “2022 CHIPS and Science Act,” which authorized roughly $280 billion in funding for building advanced computer chips in the U.S.

• Akash Systems, a startup that develops Diamond Cooling materials, recently secured $18.2 million in direct funding and $50 million in combined Federal and California State Tax Credits.

• Diamond Cooling refers to using synthetic diamonds with conductive materials like Gallium Nitrate (GaN) to reduce the heat generated in data centers.

• According to The Information, Nvidia’s new GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips have been overheating when installed in server racks.

• AI-driven demands are transforming data centers, pushing for innovative infrastructure designs and advanced cooling solutions to support the next wave of computing power.

🖋AI-Generated Poetry Outshines William Shakespeare

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh (“Pitt”) just discovered that the latest AI-generated poetry is “indistinguishable from human-written poetry” and “rated more favourably.”

Key Details:

• Ten famous poets, from the medieval Geoffrey Chaucer to the modern Dorothea Lasky, were successfully impersonated by AI chatbots, with most of the 696 participants preferring imitation to the real thing.

• Participants were asked to rate poems across a range of qualitative dimensions. For example, how was the “imagery,” “rhythm,” “sound,” or “beauty?”

• The five poems rated as “least likely” to be human were written by famous poets, while the four poems rated as the most “human-like” were AI-generated.

• However, when participants were told poems were AI-generated, they rated them lower regardless of their qualitative dimensions.

Why It’s Important:

• So, does this mean human poets have been replaced by AI chatbots? Not really. The participants reported “a low level of experience with poetry.”

• However, the study concluded that “the capabilities of Generative AI (GenAI) have outpaced people’s expectations of AI.”

🥊Emails Revealed Between Elon Musk and Sam Altman

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk recently filed a lawsuit against OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, alleging that Altman breached OpenAI’s “Founding Agreement” by transforming the company into a closed-source, maximum-profit company effectively controlled by Microsoft.

In 2015, Altman approached Musk to create an open-source, non-profit company to explore how Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) could benefit humanity. He collaborated with Altman and named the company “OpenAI” to emphasize making the company’s research publicly available.

Now, new court filings have exposed internal emails between 2015 and 2018 covering OpenAI’s initial formation to Musk’s eventual departure from the company.

Notably, former OpenAI Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever voiced his concerns about Altman: “We don’t understand why the CEO title is so important to you. Is AGI truly your primary motivation? How does it connect to your political goals?”

It’s important to remember that OpenAI just restructured into a For-Profit Benefit Corporation (“B Corp.”) that’s no longer controlled by a non-profit Board of Directors (BofD). OpenAI officially raised $6.6 billion, valuing the company at $157 billion.
