Because “GPT-5.5 Instant” is the new default daily driver for more than 900 million people who rely on ChatGPT every week, it’s optimized to deliver quick explanations for everyday, general knowledge without overexplaining everything, generating 30.2% fewer words.

It essentially reduces the “verbosity” and “overformatting” that can make responses feel way too long and way too cluttered. For example, getting rid of the gratuitous emojis like: “✨” and cringy phrasing like: “Stop! Take a breath.”

It’s also more effective at pulling relevant context from past conversations, so you don’t have to repeat yourself as often. Alongside this, OpenAI introduced memory sources, a new ChatGPT feature that shows what relevant context was utilized to personalize a response.

OpenAI says the accuracy improvements are most notable in high-stakes subject areas. In internal testing, “GPT-5.5. Instant” produced 52.5% fewer hallucinated claims than its predecessors on prompts covering law, finance, and medicine.

It’s also generally smarter at analyzing photo and video uploads, achieving 76.0% accuracy on MMMU-Pro, which tests its ability to “see” and “read” simultaneously. In other words, it’s much better at handling a photo of a STEM-related question that might include physics equations or chemical structures.

Panthalassa engineered an 85-meter-long steel lollipop that floats upright in the open ocean, converting wave motion into clean energy without any anchors attached to the seafloor or cables connected to the mainland. So, what makes this possible?

Attached to this “lollipop” is a hollow tube that’s open at the bottom, allowing seawater to move freely up and down as it bobs with the waves. This hollow tube is narrower at the top, naturally compressing seawater as it flows upward before it’s propelled into the “lollipop-shaped sphere.” This compressed seawater spins water turbines as it exits back into the open ocean.

These water turbines generate clean, sustainable energy, which is stored locally in sealed, pressure-protected energy storage modules that power onboard GPUs and TPUs, processing AI workloads directly within the “lollipop” before beaming the processed work back to us via satellites.

The ocean is the world’s largest untapped energy source. The IPPC puts the potential annual global production of “wave energy” at 29,500 TWh. For reference, that’s almost 10x Europe’s annual electricity consumption of 3,000 TWh.

McKinsey & Co. estimates that U.S. data center electricity needs will more than quadruple by 2030, reaching 606 TWh, or 11.7% of total U.S. power demand. For context, that would represent the biggest surge in U.S. energy demand since air conditioning caught on in the 1960s.
