Solana, a Blockchain platform designed to run decentralized programs, hosted an AI Hackathon for AI Agents.

Key Details:

• A Blockchain is a public digital ledger that records transactions across a network of devices.

• It lasted for 15 days, with over 400 projects and 21 winners earning more than $275,000 in prizes. Whoever built the coolest AI Agents across several categories won prizes.

• For example, the Memes category involved creating the most fun and unhinged AI Agents ever to make the judges laugh.

⚙️The New AI-Based Science Lab Chasing AGI

François Chollet, a former AI researcher at Google DeepMind, launched a new AI-based science lab called Ndea.

Key Details:

• Ndea is building “frontier AI systems that blend intuitive pattern recognition and formal reasoning into a unified architecture.”

• In simple terms, Chollet is creating AI systems that think logically to solve complex problems more intuitively.

• Imagine a chess player who quickly recognizes common chess patterns and instinctively knows the best strategy based on past chess experiences.

  1. Logic: Understands the underlying principles of chess.

  2. Intuition: Quickly assesses, adapts, and anticipates chess strategies.

  3. Experience: Learns from past chess matches.

Why It’s Important:

• Chollet is focused on pioneering breakthroughs in Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): a theoretical concept where AI systems achieve human-level learning, perception, and cognitive ability.

• OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever also recently launched Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI Inc.) to reduce the long-term risks of Superintelligent AI models.

🎙️Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Defends Using Pirated eBooks

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg allegedly gave the green light to use datasets of pirated eBooks for AI model training.

Meta’s AI Team used LibGen, a website that provides access to copyrighted eBooks from platforms like Cengage and McGraw Hill, to train AI models. LibGen is a popular resource for students because it provides free access to course materials. However, this popular resource has been fined millions of dollars and ordered to shut down countless times.

Now, Zuckerberg is using YouTube’s battle to remove pirated content to defend Meta’s use of LibGen: “YouTube may end up hosting some pirate content for some period of time. The vast majority of stuff on YouTube, I would assume, is kind of good, and they have the license to do it.” So, although YouTube may host some pirated content temporarily, most of the content is legitimate and licensed.

“I get that you’re trying to get me to give an opinion of LibGen, which I haven’t really heard of,” said Zuckerberg. He allegedly cleared using the pirated eBooks to train AI models despite concerns with Meta’s AI Team, who mentioned they’re “datasets we know to be pirated.”

Nikolay Bashlykov, an engineer on Meta’s AI Team, allegedly wrote a Script to remove the words Copyright and Acknowledgements from the pirated eBooks.
