📦 Amazon Lays Off 16,000 Corporate Workers

Amazon reportedly axed another 16,000 corporate workers as part of a strategic shift to “reduce layers, increase ownership, and remove bureaucracy.”
Key Details:
In October 2025, Amazon cut about 14,000 corporate jobs, which represented about 4% of the online retail giant’s corporate workforce. The layoffs were part of a calculated pivot to stay nimble and less bureaucratic, allowing Amazon to reallocate capital toward “our biggest bets.”
Amazon’s investing heavily in GenAI applications, including:
Rufus: a Personal Shopping Assistant that helps you discover the best products to meet your needs.
Alexa+: A Personal Voice Assistant that proactively books flights, purchases tickets, and manages subscriptions.
Amazon Q: A Personal Business Assistant that connects to a company’s internal data to automate an employee’s daily tasks.
Why It’s Important:
Amazon believes AI Agents offer a way to avoid this phenomenon by breaking the “Human-in-the-Loop” bottleneck. AI Agents can handle complex business processes by autonomously analyzing, executing, and fulfilling on an employee’s behalf.
🔍 Putting Gemini to Work in Chrome

Google announced updates to “Gemini in Chrome,” ushering in a new era of AI-powered browsing that seamlessly incorporates Gemini directly into how you explore the internet.
Key Details:
🔴 Auto Browse: Gemini can now autonomously click, type, and scroll to fill out forms, purchase products, or book reservations on your behalf.
🟠 Gemini Side Panel: Gemini can now assist you, no matter what tab you’re in, to synthesize lengthy articles or compare product reviews.
🟡 Personal Intelligence: Gemini can now retain and recall relevant information from any website you’ve visited whenever you need it.
🟢 Connected Apps: Gemini can now integrate directly into Gmail, Calendar, and Maps to pinpoint the perfect time for whatever’s next.
🔵 Nano Banana Web: Gemini can now customize the shape, size, or color of any image to adjust lighting, enhance texture, or swap subjects.
Why It’s Important:
For over two decades, we’ve turned to search engines like Google Search, typed in a search query, and received a list of blue links. Now, we’re experiencing a digital departure from asking, “What can I search for?” to asking, “What can my browser do for me?”
A person’s average attention span has shrunk to 8.25 seconds, a decline from about 12 seconds in 2000. Gen Z strongly favors instant gratification through quick access to immediate answers. To reflect this reality, Google Chrome has evolved into an “Agentic Engine” that does the reading for you.
