  • Chinese AI Lab DeepSeek released “DeepSeek-R1,” which outperformed “OpenAI o1” at a fraction of the cost with half as many computational resources.

  • NVIDIA’s stock plummeted by 17%, marking the largest daily decline by any listed company in U.S. Stock Market History, as everyone questioned the value of cutting-edge GPUs.

  • Despite this, Tech Giants aren’t slowing down. Instead, they’re ramping things up. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime type of business opportunity,” said Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.

Why It’s Important:

  • In 2025, Google plans to spend $75 billion to support AI Workloads, Microsoft plans to spend $80 billion to build AI Infrastructure, and Meta plans to spend $65 billion to deploy AI Compute.

  • Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said it’s “way too early to tell” if demand for cutting-edge GPUs will slow down since they’re essential for Test-Time Scaling, which helps LLMs generate more robust, creative, and effective outputs.

Researchers at NVIDIA developed “Aligning Simulation and Real Physics (ASAP),” which enables humanoid robots to perform athletic movements.

  • “ASAP” trains a humanoid robot to move like an athlete in three steps:

    3. Refinement: It uses the Correction Factor to align a humanoid robot’s simulated athletic movements with real-world physics, friction, and velocity.

  • “ASAP” enabled Unitree G1 to recreate the celebrations of iconic athletes like Cristiano Ronaldo’s “Siuuu!”

OpenAI released “OpenAI o3-mini,” a cost-effective small Reasoning Engine that requires fewer computational resources.

It costs 93% less than “OpenAI o1” and has claimed the top spot in Hard Prompts, Coding, and Math on the LMArena Chatbot Arena Leaderboard. However, it still struggles with Creative Writing.

The LMArena Chatbot Arena Leaderboard collects over 1,000,000 community votes that measure quality, usability, and compatibility across LLMs to crowdsource ranking. “OpenAI o3-mini” gathered 3,379 community votes, boasting significant gains in Chain-of-Thought (CoT) techniques to break down complex tasks into manageable steps.
