Amazon might invest about $10 billion in OpenAI, but the terms and timing are still “very fluid.” If finalized, this investment could value OpenAI at more than $500 billion, solidifying it as one of the world’s most valuable private tech companies.

OpenAI would adopt AWS’s “Trainium3,” a U.S.-made advanced AI chip built on 3nm technology, which offers higher transistor density to deliver more computing power and faster processing speeds.

Last month, OpenAI signed a multi-year strategic partnership with AWS, committing $38 billion over the next seven years to access AWS’s world-class AI infrastructure, which leverages AI Clusters to combine the power, storage, and memory of tens of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell Superchips to accelerate AI workloads.

OpenAI also seeks a $100 billion Series G funding round at an $830 billion valuation. That’s not a surprise! OpenAI’s pulling in roughly $20 billion in annual revenue, but it’s committed to spending over $1.4 trillion on AI infrastructure with Broadcom Inc., Oracle, NVIDIA, AMD, and AWS.

There’s a HUGE mismatch between current earnings and planned spending, meaning OpenAI must dramatically scale revenue. OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar hinted that OpenAI could IPO as early as the second half of 2026 “given the capital needs we have.”

Stanford HAI Co-Director James Landay believes countries will increasingly pursue AI sovereignty to enhance data security and reduce reliance on the U.S. political system.

Stanford HAI Senior Fellow Russ Altman expects more focus on understanding the “high-performing neural nets.” In other words, he anticipates we’ll gain a better grasp of the inner workings of LLMs. The most unsettling aspect of today’s LLMs isn’t that they work, but that we don’t fully understand how they work.

Stanford HAI Senior Fellow Curtis Langlotz forecasts an “aha!” moment for AI in medicine, where the technology’s impact becomes unmistakably clear to doctors and patients by enhancing clinical care and accelerating drug discovery at unprecedented speed and scale.

They collectively believe the era of “AI evangelism” is giving way to an era of “AI evaluation,” shifting attention from superficial hype to real-world utility.

Instead of asking: “Can AI do {X}?”, the question becomes: “How well can AI do {Y}?”, whether it’s through standardized benchmarks, real-time dashboards, or sector-specific metrics.
