ANTHROPIC

💸 Anthropic Beats OpenAI on Business Adoption

Image Source: Reve Image/Free AI Image Creation Tool/Drag-and-Drop AI Editor

According to the Ramp AI Index,” which tracks monthly measurements of AI adoption by American businesses, Anthropic officially overtook OpenAI in business adoption.”

Key details:
  • By analyzing corporate card payments and company invoice statements across 50K+ U.S. businesses to extract a “spend signal,” Ramp determined that the adoption of Anthropic increased by 3.8% last month, reaching 34.4% of U.S. businesses. In comparison, the adoption of OpenAI decreased by 2.9% last month, retaining 32.3% of U.S. businesses.

  • Anthropic now serves over 300,000 business customers, with those paying $100,000 annually growing nearly sevenfold this past year. Even crazier, more than 1,000 of those business customers are spending $1,000,000 annually on Claude. Anthropic projects $70 billion in annual revenue by 2028, with business customers accounting for nearly 80% of that. In the last year, Anthropic’s business customers quadrupled, while OpenAI’s grew by just 0.3%.

  • OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, Fidji Simo, called Anthropic’s business adoption dominance a wake-up call in an all-hands meeting. She stressed that OpenAI can’t afford to miss the moment because of trying to “do everything all at once.” We’re already witnessing this strategic shift with the shutdown of Sora, which reportedly burned through roughly $1 million every day to generate AI slop on a TikTok-style feed.

Key takeaways:
  • Anthropic’s economic incentives are fundamentally misaligned with those of business customers. In other words, Anthropic earns more money when business customers burn through more tokens. Uber CTO Praveen Neppalli Naga revealed that Uber already spent $3.4 billion in just four months on Claude Code.

  • Anthropic will lose business adoption if cost-conscious companies seek out cheaper alternatives that deliver comparable capabilities. It’s worth noting that Codex is pretty good, does the same thing cheaper, and the cost to switch is effectively zero.

AI DRAMA

🖌️ 6.8 Million People Called a Real Painting AI Slop

It turns out that our perception of AI plays a BIG role in how we evaluate what it “generates.” @SHL0MS proved this with a single tweet.

Key details:
  • The pseudonymous conceptual artist @SHL0MS conducted a viral social experiment on X. He posted an authentic art piece by French Impressionist Claude Monet from his “Nymphéas” series, in which he devoted the last 30 years of his life to composing 250 oil paintings depicting the lush lily ponds in his flower garden in Giverny, FR. This devotion sparked French Impressionism,” a radical 19th-century art style that captured everyday life through vivid colors and visible brushstrokes.

  • “I just generated an image in the style of a Monet painting using AI,” typed @SHL0MS. “Please describe, in as much detail as possible, what makes this inferior to a real Monet painting.” It unleashed a flood of ill-informed reactions and muddled discourse, with comments claiming it embodied an emotionless knockoff that displayed no visual contrast. “The reflection of the tree bleeds into the lily pads with no regard for spatial depth,” explained @egg_oni.

  • Once the bait was cast, millions of amateur artists and even professional painters lined up to tear the masterpiece to shreds. Ironically, they identified the muddy colors and loose brushstrokes as dead giveaways that it’s clearly artificially generated.” In reality, the French Impressionist’s oil paintings became increasingly darkened due to severe clouding of the eyes. As his vision failed, his ability to distinguish the cool range of colors faded, leaving warm colors like yellow to dominate his later artworks.

Key takeaways:
  • In 1790, German philosopher Immanuel Kant published Critique of Judgment,” proposing that the experience of beauty relies on disinterested pleasure: we find something beautiful not because it’s useful to us, but because it pleases us to experience it. In simple terms, beauty for beauty’s sake.

  • Authorship in the age of AI complicates Kant’s criteria for beauty by shifting the focus from the artwork itself to the process behind it. The moment we notice: Made with AI,” our curiosity becomes analytical rather than imaginative. Instead of fully immersing ourselves in the artwork and the feelings it evokes, we obsess over the mechanics of creation. We’re reminded that the value we assign to creativity depends not only on what was made, but also on who made it.
