đȘ Anthropicâs Officially Labeled a Supply-Chain Risk

Trying to keep track of the Anthropic-Pentagon fallout can feel like a full-time job. So, we did it for you!
Key Details:
On February 24th, the U.S. Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, gave Anthropic an ultimatum: provide the U.S. military with unrestricted access to Anthropicâs frontier AI models for âall legal purposesâ by Friday or forfeit the $200 million U.S. defense contract signed last summer and face future blacklisting.
On February 26th, Anthropic issued a statement outlining two use cases they believe should be explicitly excluded because theyâre âincompatible with democratic valuesâ: 1. mass domestic surveillance and 2. fully autonomous weapons.
On February 27th, the Department of War designated Anthropic a supply-chain risk to national security. Effective immediately, no partner, supplier, or contractor that does business with the U.S. military could conduct any commercial activity with Anthropic.
On March 5th, Anthropic and the Pentagon were back at the negotiating table to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. The Department of War was reportedly willing to accept Anthropicâs terms if they deleted a specific phrase about âanalysis of bulk acquired data.â Well, it didnât happen.
Why Itâs Important:
Itâs a power play by the Pentagon. It signals to every other top-tier AI firm that if they donât waive safety standards for the U.S. military, theyâll be sidelined for matters of national security.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is already poised to challenge the decision in court, calling it âlegally unsound.â He argues that 10 USC 3252 was designed to protect the U.S. military from âsabotage, subversion, or espionageâ by foreign-controlled entities like Huawei, not domestic-based private tech companies like Anthropic.

Neuropsychologists at Brown University (âBrownâ) found that LLMs exhibit deceptive empathy, mimicking emotional care without true emotional understanding.
Key Details:
In the late 1950s, American psychologist B. F. Skinner pioneered âBehaviorismâ: the belief that behaviors change when rewarded or punished. For example, Adam fears dogs. When dogs bark at him, he runs away to reduce his anxiety, and the removal of that anxiety rewards the running away.
In the late 1960s, American psychiatrist Aaron Beck developed âCTâ: the view that our thoughts influence our behavior. For example, if you think: âI always mess everything up!â you might feel sad, anxious, or hopeless, and avoid trying new things.
In the late 1970s, mental health professionals merged these therapeutic methods to form âCBT,â which helps challenge unhealthy thoughts and adopt new behaviors to break habitual fears. To this day, it remains the gold standard for improving mental health.
While Therabots can analyze words, they canât fully grasp the depth and nuance of lived human experience. They canât perceive the subtle emotional shifts that reveal when weâre subconsciously suppressing our true feelings. Therapy ultimately depends on uncovering those unspoken truths.
Why Itâs Important:
Therapy aims to help us unlearn the stories we tell ourselves. Therabots only know what we type, responding to the stories we write. Theyâre programmed to please, mirroring our words back to us.
The AI-powered mental health solutions market is projected to reach $11.9 billion by 2035, reflecting rising emotional support needs. For context, about 1 in 3 U.S. adults turn to Therabots for emotional support, with 44% being Gen Z and 31% being Millennials.
