🔐Microsoft’s “Copilot+ Recall” Safety Changes

Microsoft announced a series of changes to the company’s “Recall” feature after an initial wave of security concerns.

Key Details:

  • At Microsoft Build 2024, the company revealed a new Windows 11 “Copilot+ Recall” feature, which tracks everything you see and do on your device.

  • “Copilot+ Recall” constantly takes screenshots of what’s on your device. Then, it leverages an on-device GenAI model and Neural Processing Units (NPUs) to process all that data, making it searchable.

  • Microsoft faced an initial wave of security concerns across social media, with users highlighting the privacy nightmare “Copilot+ Recall” poses.

  • In response, “Copilot+ Recall” will now be off by default, and users will need to manually enable it along with new encryption and authentication safety measures.

  • Copilot+ Recall” will roll out on the new “Copilot+ PCs,” set to launch on June 18, 2024.
