🍎Apple’s New Siri Will Allow Voice-Activated App Control

Apple reportedly plans a major AI-powered overhaul for Siri sometime in 2026, aiming to make it the “true hands-free controller of your iPhone.”
Key Details:
When Apple Intelligence was first introduced at WWDC24, it showcased a new Smart Siri with “on-screen awareness” to autonomously summarize emails or craft text replies. It turns out Smart Siri was nowhere near ready.
Apple isn’t focused on making Siri smarter this time. Instead, it’s about creating an entirely new way to execute actions without lifting a finger. For example, imagine saying: “Send this photo to Charles!” Siri would understand that you’re currently viewing a specific photo, open Messages, attach that specific photo, and send it to Charles.
This new AI-powered overhaul of Siri will likely rely on some version of Apple’s ReALM, which converts any on-screen information into text, enabling Siri to “read” everything you’re doing.
Why It’s Important:
We’re starting to see a shift in Human-Computer Interactions (HCIs) from touch to talk. In other words, the return of voice-based commands.
As voice becomes a more common interface option, devices will begin to feel more like collaborators that understand not just what we say, but what we mean.

Would you use Siri if it could intelligently see, hear, and speak?

📽️AI That Thinks Like Your Brain Watching a Movie

Meta’s FAIR Team just developed “TRImodal Brain Encoder (TRIBE),” which reliably estimates how the human brain will respond to text, audio, and video in movies.
Key Details:
“TRIBE” is a Deep Neural Network (DNN) that accurate predicts brain activity levels by processing text, audio, and video from movies through multiple layers of computer calculations.
First, the DNN uses filters, or small grids of numbers, to decode the meaning of an actor’s words or capture the shapes, sizes, and movements during a scene.
Then, it assigns mathematical weights to these filters based on their importance in predicting how the human brain functions while watching movies.
Finally, it combines all this information to generate “brain inputs” every half-second that capture the ongoing levels of brain activity throughout a movie. In other words, “TRIBE” tracks how the brain dynamically responds to changing scenes, sounds, and actions within a movie in real time.
Why It’s Important:
“TRIBE” claimed first place at The Algonauts Project 2025 Challenge, correctly predicting over half of the activity levels across 1,000 brain regions. In this context, brain regions refer to parcellation: dividing the brain into smaller sections to analyze it more accurately.
“TRIBE” is a stepping stone toward more advanced Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) that create direct neural links between the human brain and external devices, such as robotic limbs.
