Apple plans to launch a robotic tabletop tablet with a lifelike version of Siri by 2027, serving as your “smart home command center.”
Key Details:
The robotic tabletop tablet reportedly resembles a large iPad-like display mounted on a “thin robotic arm” that tilts, spins, and rotates like a “movable human limb.”
The lifelike version of Siri will be more natural, flexible, and deeply integrated, capable of “injecting itself into conversations involving multiple people.”
Apple also recently developed “ELEGNT,” a framework that enables robots to convey emotions like joy, sadness, or curiosity through their movements. They designed a lamp-light robot reminiscent of Pixar’s Luxo Jr. animated short film. It’s built with a light, a projector, and a six-axis robotic arm.
When tested among 21 participants, the lamp-like robot was perceived better when it showed “expression-driven movements” rather than just “function-driven movements.”
Some participants noted that it’s “annoying rather than welcoming,” highlighting the need to strike a balance between engagement and performance. In other words, robots should be friendly and fun to use while still completing assigned tasks efficiently.
