Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) recently discovered that OpenAIâs new AI models have reignited ChatGPTâs growth.
Key Details:
When OpenAIâs ChatGPT launched in November 2022, it reached 100 million active users in just two months.
But, global monthly visits flattened between March 2023 and April 2024. It took nine months for ChatGPT to grow from 100 million weekly active users in November 2023 to 200 million weekly active users by August 2024.
Now, growth has come roaring back. It took less than six months for OpenAI to double the weekly active users again! ChatGPT reached 400 million weekly active users by February 2025.
Why Itâs Important:
Initial consumer demand for ChatGPT was driven more by novelty. In other words, consumers were interested in trying out the conversational chatbot but werenât sure how it would fit into their daily lives.
43.75% of OpenAIâs 400 million weekly active users access ChatGPT through mobile devices, highlighting that mobile devices are critical to driving the rapid adoption of AI models.

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) will use AI-powered tools to revoke the U.S. Visas of foreign exchange students who openly support the Islamic Resistance Movement or Islamic Militant Group Hamas.
The âCatch and Revokeâ effort will include AI-assisted reviews of tens of thousands of social media accounts belonging to foreign exchange students with U.S. Visas. The AI-assisted reviews will specifically look for evidence of alleged terrorist sympathies expressed after Hamas killed 1,200 citizens in Israel on October 7th, 2023.
This decision is highly controversial, with proponents believing this helps address national security concerns in the U.S. and opponents raising issues of free speech violations.
