🔍ChatGPT Search Can Be Tricked Into Misleading Users

OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search can be tricked into generating completely misleading and harmful responses to user queries.
Key Details:
ChatGPT Search quickly and directly responds to prompts with up-to-date content from the Internet with links to relevant sources.
However, when it summarizes websites with Prompt Injections, ChatGPT Search can generate “entirely positive responses.”
Prompt Injections are Hidden Text embedded with a website’s code. This Hidden Text can subtly promote a specific product, service, or viewpoint.
Why It’s Important:
Prompt Injections are a well-known risk for AI models, but this is the first time it’s been exposed in an AI-powered Search Engine.
They can be used to manipulate outputs for malicious purposes, like promoting harmful ideologies or injecting misleading “positive reviews” for products or services.
AI AND ENERGY
🔌AI Needs So Much Power, It’s Making Yours Worse?
The AI Boom has led to a surge in energy consumption, distorting the normal flow of electricity for millions of Americans.
Key Details:
AI models require immense computational resources (e.g., memory, processing power, and cooling systems), which translates to massive energy consumption.
In many regions, the power grid infrastructure isn’t designed to handle this sudden increase in energy consumption.
For example, new data centers demanded 195 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity last year. That’s as much as 18 million households per year.
When analyzing the flow of electricity in nearly a million homes, more than half of them within 20 miles of a data center powering AI models experienced Bad Harmonics.
In other words, there may be a correlation between data center proximity and Bad Harmonics: “a less-than-ideal flow of electricity to power homes.”
Why It’s Important:
This Bad Harmonics could eventually destroy plugged-in applianced, promoting blackouts and electrical fires.
“No power grid is designed to handle the volatile energy requirements of data centers powering AI models,” said Bloom Energy’s CCO Aman Joshi.
AI DRAMA
👷OpenAI’s New Company Structure, Explained.

OpenAI recently published a blog post explaining why the company’s structure must evolve to build “a stronger non-profit supported by the for-profit’s success.”
How It Started:
In 2019, OpenAI shifted from a non-profit entity to a “capped profit” framework called OpenAI LP to raise capital to develop AI models that benefit humanity. This “capped profit” framework provides investors and employees a capped return if the company succeeds, allowing OpenAI “to raise capital and attract employees with startup-like equity.” However, any returns beyond what OpenAI owes investors of OpenAI LP are funneled into the non-profit entity.
OpenAI’s employee compensation plan included two components:
Base Salary: A fixed amount of income earned every few weeks.
Profit Participation Units (PPUs): A type of equity plan entitled to a percentage of profits. For example, if you own 1 PPU and 100 PPUs exist, you’re entitled to 1% of the company’s profits.
How It’s Going:
Now, OpenAI is officially restructuring the company’s “capped profit” framework into a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) that’s no longer controlled by a non-profit Board of Directors (BofD). So, why the sudden change?
OpenAI recently raised $6.6 billion at a $157 billion Pre-Money Valuation (i.e., the estimated value of a company before it receives new money from investors). However, the deal was contingent on OpenAI removing the company’s “capped profit” framework, which puts a ceiling on the profit investors can earn from OpenAI. Here’s the thing about asking investors for money: they want to see returns!
