AI AND REGULATION
đCalifornia Proposes AI Regulation âSB 1047â

California State Senator of District 11 Scott Wiener proposed âSB 1047,â an aggressive AI safety regulation framework that faces backlash from companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.
Key Details:
âSB 1047â proactively aims to prevent Large Language Models (LLMs) from causing âcritical harmsâ against humanity.
It imposes transparency obligations that require developers to disclose technical details about their LLMs.
It also forces developers to add emergency stop buttons that turn off LLMs in seconds.
âSB 1047â creates a new enforcement agency called the Board of Frontier Models (BFM).
A developerâs Chief Technology Officer (CTO) must submit an annual report to the BFM outlining the companyâs AI safety protocols and AI developments.
If an âAI safety incidentâ occurs, the developer must report it to the BFM within 72 hours of learning about it.
Why Itâs Important:
âWe have a history with technology of waiting for harms to happen,â said Wiener. âLetâs not wait for something bad to happen. Letâs get out ahead of it.â
OpenAI and Anthropic argue that âSB 1047â prematurely stifles innovation by supporting a robust regulatory regime for AI developments before the technology causes harm.
Geopolitical observers note that overly cautionary regulation may give China the time to usurp the U.S. in the AI arms race.

FINALSPARK
đ§ Creating AI Models With Human Brain Cells

FinalSpark officially launched âNeuroplatform,â an online system that allows scientists, researchers, and developers to access biological processors with live brain cells for computing.
Key Details:
Neuroplatform combines traditional computer parts with living brain cells, rewarding the âorganoidsâ with dopamine when generating correct outputs to train AI models.
Neuroplatform leverages 16 âorganoidsâ to process information and perform calculations while consuming a âmillion times less power than traditional digital processors.â
FinalSparkâs âorganoidsâ can live and compute for up to 100 days.
âOrganoidsâ are cell clusters grown in a lab to resemble parts of the human brain.
âBiocomputingâ harnesses the processing power of the âorganoidsâ to communicate through complex electrical signals.
Why Itâs Important:
AI is an energy-intensive industry, and alleviating its dependence on Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), Central Processing Units (CPUs), or Neural Networks (NNs) is generally a step in the right direction.
Compared to traditional digital processors, âNeuroplatformâ leverages biological processors in the brain cells, which are inherently more efficient than silicon-based computing.

UNITREE ROBOTICS
đŠŸThe $16,000 Mass Production Humanoid Robot
Unitree Robotics unveiled âUnitree G1,â a humanoid robot that autonomously performs unsafe, repetitive, or tedious tasks.
âUnitree G1â boasts 23 to 34 joint motors with impressive speed, dexterity, and balance.
Additional features include a flexible neck, integrated electronics, and joint position encoders that aim to mimic natural human movements.
âUnitree G1â uses the Unitree Robot Unified Large Model (UnifoLM) to make decisions based on sensory inputs and learned knowledge.
