🚗Elon Musk Demos Tesla’s AI Driving

On Saturday, Elon Musk live-streamed driving his Tesla Model S using a refined beta version of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) V12 software.

Key Details:

• This AI software is powered by large volumes of neural networks trained through driving data like handling turns, obstacles, and speed adjustments.

• As the live stream continued, the system maneuvered through roundabouts, avoided invasive bicyclists, and adjusted to construction zones in Palo Alto, CA.

• Elon Musk explained that Tesla Vision is designed to replicate how human vision functions with our eyes and brain.

• Over 300,000 lines of C++ code in the exclusive control stack of Version 11 are not present in Version 12.

Why It’s Important:

• Earlier models of FSD V12 relied on programming logic and code until Tesla shifted to AutoPilot decision-making through neural networks, allowing Tesla’s hardware to mimic how nerve cells function in the human brain.

• Neural networks are a “Black Box” that requires large amounts of data and computational resources. Musk cannot isolate each independent variable’s (e.g., photographic road data) influence on the dependent variables (e.g., accident probability).

• Autonomous vehicles threaten ride-sharing and truck driver job security. Over-the-air updates are inconceivable for legacy carmakers.

📊OpenAI Debutes ChatGPT Enterprise for Businesses

On Monday, OpenAI announced ChatGPT Enterprise, an AI chatbot for businesses.

Key Details:

• This tool has been in development for less than a year and required help from 20 companies of varying sizes and industries.

• ChatGPT Enterprise includes access to GPT-4 with no usage caps, additional API credits, and improved performance.

• ChatGPT Enterprise allows clients to input company data to train and customize ChatGPT for their industries and use cases.

• Beta users included Block, Canva, and The Estée Lauder Cos.

• OpenAI plans to implement a future usage tier, called ChatGPT Business, for smaller teams.

Why It’s Important:

• OpenAI is a cash-burning machine despite attempting to monetize GPT-3.5 and GPT-4.

• ChatGPT costs OpenAI roughly $700K daily, and openAI has burned through $540M since 2022.

• OpenAI plans to onboard as many enterprises as possible over the next few weeks to establish a heightened revenue stream and avoid bankruptcy in 2024.

ALIBABA

📳Alibaba Launches AI Image Models

Alibaba, a Chinese online commerce platform, launched several AI models to analyze images and carry out more complex conversations.

Key Details:

• These two AI models, Qwen-VL and Qwen-VL-Chat, are Vision Language Models (VLMs) that analyze visual data rather than text inputs like Google’s Bard.

• Qwen-VL generates image captions, answers open-ended questions, and catalogs user data.

• Qwen-VL-Chat compares multiple image inputs, sustains dialogues, writes stories, and solves mathematical equations.

Why It’s Important:

• Alibaba released these models on the heels of China’s reformed laws governing AI services among companies.

• These releases are intensifying the US-China AI race. China is signaling it won’t back down as it removes heavy regulations and funnels funding into AI research labs.
