EVOLUTIONARYSCALE
🧬Frontier Language Model Simulates 500 Million Years of Evolution

Biotechnology startup EvolutionaryScale unveiled ESM3, a frontier language model that generates novel proteins by simulating millions of years of natural evolution.
Key Details:
EvolutionaryScale is an AI-meets-biotechnology startup focused on helping scientists craft entirely new molecules to engineer medicines, biofuels, and materials.
EvolutionaryScale emerged from Meta’s Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) group and recently secured $142 million in seed funding from technology giants such as Amazon and Nvidia.
ESM3 was trained on datasets of 2.78 billion proteins across the Earth’s natural diversity to predict biological patterns and leverage those patterns to design new proteins with specific functions.
ESM3 generated a new fluorescent protein called “esmGFP,” which is 58% different from any known fluorescent proteins, a degree of difference comparable to 500 million years of evolution.
Fluorescent proteins enable scientists to visualize, track, and quantify molecules and events in living cells with high spatial and temporal resolution.
Why It’s Important:
The training datasets of 2.78 billion proteins allows the frontier language model to understand the underlying patterns of how proteins function and design entirely new proteins with desired properties.
Simulating millions of years of natural evolution in seconds enables scientists to explore a larger landscape of possibilities than natural evolution would allow.
OPENAI
🗣OpenAI Delays ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Model

OpenAI announced the company is delaying the launch of ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Model to continue refining the feature’s ability to detect and refuse certain content.
Key Details:
OpenAI planned to roll out ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Model within weeks of May’s Spring Update event.
Now, OpenAI aims to launch ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Model through an iterative deployment strategy by offering alpha access to small groups of users.
However, the “exact timeline depends on meeting our high safety and reliability bar.”
ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Model can reason across audio, vision, and text in real-time to offer more natural human-computer interaction.
It brings us closer to achieving natural conversations with AI models.
Why It’s Important:
OpenAI users signed up for Plus, expecting ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Model to be available “in the coming weeks.” OpenAI demonstrated an expansive new feature without truly having it finalized, misleading OpenAI users.
Now, developer communities believe the company is leveraging the “safety and reliability bar” method to cover up overpromising and underdelivering.
