California Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order instructing state agencies to examine how AI models might threaten the privacy and security of residents while also authorizing state employees to experiment with AI tools.
Key Details:
Executive Order N-12-23 highlights how the state government needs to foster a safe and responsible innovation ecosystem that puts AI systems and tools to the best use for Californians.
Newsomâs executive order directs state agencies and departments to draft reports within the next two months examining the potential benefits and risks of generating AI models.
The California Cybersecurity Integration Center and California State Threat Assessment Center must perform joint risk analyses on critical energy infrastructure.
State departments are required to establish infrastructure for conducting generative AI pilot projects and create formal partnerships with AI research institutions (e.g., UC Berkeleyâs College of Computing and Stanfordâs Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence).

Newson is attempting to place California in the driverâs seat of AIâs future in America and influence actions taken by other states to regulate AI models.
The executive order comes before the AI Forum in Washington next week, featuring OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Zoom partnered with various Large Language Models (LLMs), including Meta Llama 2, OpenAI, and Anthropic, to deliver high-quality results.

Zoomâs rebranding efforts are essential for the companyâs future success. Recently, Zoom faced its first quarterly loss of $108M since 2018. In February, Zoom laid off 15% of its staff (1,300 employees), blaming the post-pandemic slump in demand and competition from Microsoft and Slack.
