🔋Generative AI and Electric Vehicle Batteries
Aionics is a platform focused on accelerating the clean energy revolution by combining high-performance computing with Machine Learning (ML) to build batteries for electric vehicles.
Key Details:
Over ten billion commercially procurable molecules are available today. The standard combination used to build electrolyte materials in batteries is a grouping of five molecules.
These combinations are essential in the world of batteries. Discovering the correct mixture of electrolyte materials results in faster charging and more energy-dense batteries for electric vehicles.
Aionics AI tool enhances the discovery process for uncovering suitable molecule combinations to upgrade electric offerings. Aionics co-founder and CEO Austin Sendek explained: “The problem is there are too many candidates and not enough time.”
Aionics scientists use AI-accelerated quantum mechanics to run experiments on existing datasets with billions of known molecules, allowing them to consider 10,000 candidates per second.
Instead of relying on billions of known molecules, Aionics leverages generative AI models to create or design new molecules targeted for specific applications.
Aionics method for catalyst discovery has attracted investors and led to a $3.5M seed round with UP Partners.
Why It’s Important:
The molecule discovery process for better batteries is similar to the drug discovery process for treatments. It can require over a decade of testing and thousands of failures to define the right combinations of molecules to improve battery efficiency.
Lithium-ion batteries contain three critical building blocks. There are two electrodes, with an anode (negative) on one side and a cathode (positive) on the other. An electrolyte occupies the middle, acting as the courier to move ions between the electrodes when charging and discharging.
Aionics focuses on the electrolyte and its ability to intensify ions passing effortlessly between the critical blocks to conduct more efficient energy.

⚙️OpenAI Shifts Core Values
OpenAI quietly revised the core values listed on its website, prioritizing a greater emphasis on the development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
Key Details:
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described AGI as “the equivalent of a median human you could hire as a co-worker.”
OpenAI’s career page previously listed six core values for its employees: ambitious, thoughtful, unpretentious, impact-driven, collaborative, and growth-oriented.
The same page lists five values, with “AGI Focus” being the first: “We are committed to building safe, beneficial AGI that will have a massive positive impact on humanity’s future. Anything that doesn’t help with that is out of scope.”
In a mission statement published in 2018, OpenAI described AGI as “highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work.”
Why It’s Important:
AGI is an advanced form of AI that can perform human tasks. It can mimic human sensory and motor skills, performance, learning, and intelligence. AGI can use these abilities to reason, solve problems, understand abstract concepts, and carry out highly competitive tasks without human intervention.
OpenAI plans to build AI systems that are generally smarter than humans for the benefit of humanity. Sam Altman intends to exploit this technology to increase abundance, turbocharge the global economy, and aid in discovering new scientific knowledge.
