✉️ Gmail’s Entering the Gemini Era?

Google officially decided to bring Gmail into the Gemini era,” launching three new AI-powered features to help you be more personal and proactive.

Key Details:
  1. 🔵 Ask Anything: Whether you’re hunting for keywords or digging through reply threads, Gemini can now interpret your natural language commands to instantly extract specific details from certain emails and transform them into concise summaries.

  2. 🔴 Help Me Write: Whether you’re staring at a blank reply or rewriting the same response over and over, Gemini can now help you respond faster with suggested replies that match your tone, style, and intent.

  3. 🟡 The AI Inbox: Your inbox is filled with reports, requests, and reminders. Some demand attention, others only add clutter. Gemini can now continuously generate personalized briefings that consolidate your entire inbox, helping you prioritize that flight confirmation, that urgent project deadline, or that meeting invite.

Why It’s Important:
  • Today, over 3 billion people rely on Gmail to connect and collaborate. For context, that means roughly 37% of the global population leverages Gmail to get things done.

  • With the volume of emails at an all-time high, effectively managing your inbox carries the same importance as the emails themselves. These three new AI-powered features enable you to communicate better and faster with less brainpower.

AI DRAMA

🔥 OpenAI’s Convoluted Corporate Structure Under Fire

Tech billionaire Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI will officially stand trial in a U.S. federal court after a U.S. District Judge ruled there’s enough evidence for a jury to consider his claims of constructive fraud.

Key Details:
  • OpenAI was originally founded as a non-profit organization before it added a “for-profit subsidiary” called OpenAI LP in 2019. This “for-profit subsidiary” allowed investors a capped return if OpenAI succeeded. However, any money made beyond that capped return was funneled back into the non-profit organization.

  • When OpenAI raised a $6.6 billion Series E funding round at a $157 billion valuation in 2024, investors required OpenAI to initiate restructuring into a Delaware PBC that’s no longer controlled by a non-profit BofD because it removes the capped return limitation.

  • In response, Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI for transforming from an open-source, non-profit organization into a closed-source, maximum-profit enterprise effectively controlled by Microsoft.

Why It’s Important:
  • Microsoft’s invested over $13 billion in OpenAI since 2019 in exchange for 20% of OpenAI’s revenue until 2030. Under this multi-billion-dollar partnership, OpenAI couldn’t simply convert into a Delaware PBC without Microsoft’s approval.

  • After heated negotiations, Microsoft now holds a 27% equity stake in OpenAI, and OpenAI pledged to purchase $250 billion of Microsoft Azure services to officially complete the restructuring. Now, everyone’s wondering how the heck OpenAI legally pulled off this for-profit transition within five years while actively benefiting from the non-profit organization’s tax-exempt status and becoming closed-source.
