Google released several experimental AI features for Chrome users to organize tabs, create custom themes, and consult a writing assistant.

Key Details:
  • To enable these features, sign into Chrome, select “Settings” from the three-dot menu, and navigate to the “Experimental AI” page.

    1. Tab Organizer: Chrome automatically suggests and creates tab groups based on your open tabs.

    2. Customize Chrome: a text-to-image diffusion model that quickly generates custom themes based on the subject, mood, visual style, and colors you choose.

    3. Help Me Write: write more confidently on public forums, leave well-written restaurant reviews, craft RSVPs for parties, and make formal inquiries about apartments.

  • The “Help Me Write” feature will be rolled out over the next few months.

  • Google plans to integrate the new Gemini Pro model to make browsing “even easier and faster” for Chrome users.

Why It’s Important:
  • Browsers are essential for developers to integrate and access practically anything. They provide privacy, extensions, bookmarks, and developer tools for debugging.

  • Microsoft has integrated various AI-powered features into Edge over the past year. Google’s late to the party, but Chrome’s the world’s leading internet browser.

🎓MIT Study Reveals AI Job Loss Is Overhyped

Image Source: Victor J. Blue/Bloomberg Finance LP

MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) published a report analyzing the feasibility of AI systems performing specific roles and replacing workers.

Key Details:
  • Most jobs labeled as at risk of AI displacement aren’t “economically beneficial” to automate.

  • Only 23% of wages for vision-related tasks are automation-friendly and economical to replace using AI models.

  • The data suggests that building custom systems is far more expensive than human labor costs for most companies.

  • Even cheap pre-trained AI models would require decades of advancements to offset human workers for various low-wage, multi-task jobs.

  • The report claims AI disruption will happen slower and less dramatically than other studies suggest.

Why It’s Important:
  • We shouldn’t dismiss the impact of AI systems on labor markets. The pace of cost reductions, performance improvements, and regulations will impact the scale of disruption in job markets.

  • However, understanding the current limitations of automating specific “task-based” roles provides perspective around the doomsday predictions of mass job loss.
