During the Google I/O 2024 developer conference, the search engine giant unveiled a universal assistant called “Project Astra” and a text-to-video AI model called “Veo.”
Key Details:
Google DeepMind unveiled “Project Astra,” a universal assistant that can process multimodal information (e.g., text, image, voice, and video), understand the context you’re in, and take action on the user’s behalf.
The demonstration video showcased an employee interacting with “Project Astra” by using their smartphone’s camera and asking the universal assistant to locate missing glasses, identify parts of a speaker, and review code.
Google DeepMind introduced “Veo,” a text-to-video AI model that generates high-quality, 1080p Full HD videos over a minute long.
Whether you’re a seasoned filmmaker, aspiring creator, or educator looking to share knowledge, “Veo” provides unprecedented creative control by applying cinematic effects, like time lapses or aerial shots, to a user’s prompt.
Why It’s Important:
“Project Astra” offers a more seamless, natural, and helpful way to interact with AI models. It gathers information from the real world through your smartphone’s camera and responds to questions conversationally.
“Veo’s” ability to generate high-quality videos from text descriptions opens doors for more people to create content.

Swedish financial technology firm Klarna reported that nearly 90% of its employees rely on GenAI tools to streamline daily workflows and boost task completion.
Key Details:
Klarna, which allows individuals to split their purchases into interest-free monthly installments, said that roughly 90% of its 5,000 employees use GenAI tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The most significant users of GenAI in the company are non-technical groups, including communications {92.6%}, marketing {87.9%}, and legal {86.4%}.
Klarna also deployed its own internal AI assistant called “Kiki.” Over 85% of employees rely on “Kiki,” with the chatbot responding to at least 2,000 queries a day.
Selma Bogren, senior managing legal counsel at Klarna, explained: “Instead of an hour, you can draft a contract in ten minutes.”
Why It’s Important:
According to a Deloitte survey, 61% of respondents who work with a computer use GenAI tools in their day-to-day work without their manager’s knowledge.
Klarna’s primary use for GenAI tools involves evaluating whether press articles written about the company are positive or negative and drafting contracts.
