🗞RECENT NEWS
⚙️Google Trains Robots With AI Language Models
Google released a vision-language-action model called the Robotic Transformer (RT-2). This model teaches robots to recognize visual and language patterns when analyzing requests.
RT-2 is trained through online information and robotics data, leveraging AI language models like Google’s Bard to interpret, catalog, and direct robot actions.
Vincent Vanhoucke, Head of Robotics for Google DeepMind, expressed how this ability to “transfer concepts embedded in language and vision training data to direct robot actions” advances data collection, saving valuable time.
Why It’s Important:
Previously, teaching robots simple tasks required time and effort. Engineers had to individually program directions and apply tailored parameters.
Google’s RT-2 can access extensive data sets from the internet and infer what actions to implement for unseen scenarios, reducing programming and parameter requirements.
CENTER FOR AI SAFETY
🦺AI Researchers Bypass ChatGPT Safety Rules
Researchers at the Center for AI Safety (CAIS) discovered loopholes to bypass guardrails in major AI-powered chatbots.
They developed jailbreaks for open-source systems by adding characters to the end of user queries. Anyone could use these automated attacks to overcome safety rules and provoke chatbots to produce harmful content.
The researchers used Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI to demonstrate the current safety flaws in chatbots.
Why It’s Important:
This research raises questions about how AI systems are moderated and the safety of releasing powerful open-source language models to the public.
How will these companies balance providing autonomy with censorship? Will regulating content or enhancing guardrails ruin the user experience?
AMAZON
🪨Amazon Bedrock Expansion
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is determined to be the leading cloud provider for organizations looking to benefit from Generative AI.
At the AWS Summit New York event, Amazon announced a series of iterative updates to enhance their AI cloud computing service, Bedrock.
Bedrock supports AI21, Anthropic, Stability AI, and Amazon Titan models. This recent update added the Cohere and SDXL 1.0 models.
Amazon also announced new Bedrock agent capabilities to aid users in building services.
Why It’s Important:
Bedrock agents extend AI models to comprehend user requests, break down complex tasks into simple steps, and take actions to fulfill requests.
This tailored agent’s ability to fulfill roles and perform tasks transforms how companies interact with AI platforms to enhance their workflows.
The Bedrock library allows several third-party models to coexist on one platform, streamlining access to AI tools.
