🔥Meta Fires 600 Employees

Meta reportedly plans to lay off 600 employees across the company’s “bloated” AI departments.
Key Details:
In June 2025, Meta finalized a $14.8 billion all-cash deal to acquire a 49% stake in Scale AI, with Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang being recruited to lead Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), which aims to develop machines that can think, reason, and learn in a way that’s smarter than humans.
To support MSL, Meta’s been poaching AI researchers from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind by offering pay packages of up to $300 million.
For instance, 24-year-old AI researcher Matt Deitke was given $250 million in stock and cash over four years, with $100 million guaranteed within the first year.
Now, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is converting MSL into a startup-like operation that’s more agile and less overly bureaucratic. “By reducing the size of our team, fewer conversations will be required to make a decision.”
Why It’s Important:
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman sent a fiery internal message slamming Meta’s recent recruiting tactics: “Missionaries will be Mercenaries. What Meta’s doing will lead to very deep cultural problems.”
As AI talent becomes more valuable, salaries are skyrocketing, and restructuring efforts are transforming the competitive landscape among Tech Giants. It’s a high-stakes power struggle over the future influence of AI developments.

🐾Teaching AI To Locate Specific Objects

MIT CSAIL recently developed “IPLoc,” which enables VLMs to learn, locate, and label specific objects in photos or videos.
Key Details:
VLMs allow AI systems to interpret images and associate them with corresponding words. For example, identifying generic objects (e.g., “dog,” “table,” or “lion”) within photos. However, they struggle to recognize specific objects.
Imagine yourself at a crowded dog park, where barks echo, leashes tangle, and tennis balls soar. Amid the chaos, your dog “Bowser,” a chocolate-brown lab with a blue collar, is nowhere in sight.
You lift your iPhone 17, open the camera, and ask: “Hey Siri, where’s Bowser?” Behind the scenes, IPLoc springs into action, converting your question and the live camera feed into embeddings: a list of numbers that AI systems can understand.
For example, the concept of “blue collar” is represented by numbers like: “[0.23, -1.51, 0.87,....].” Suddenly, a small green box appears on your iPhone 17, locking onto a familiar someone: “Bowser spotted just past the far bench!”
Why It’s Important:
IPLoc helps AI systems truly recognize the world in a more human-like way, unlocking smarter, safer, and speedier assistance in real-world environments.
Right now, IPLoc is great at locating a specific object, but it struggles at finding multiple specific objects at once. As a result, it often misses critical details.

This simple prompt turns ChatGPT into your personal habit-building coach:
Context: I’ve been struggling to stick with {Insert Specific Habit},
Clarity: often losing momentum quickly and feeling frustrated by inconsistency.
Guidance: Can you develop an actionable habit-building plan that revolves around a cue (i.e., “trigger”), a routine (i.e., “behavior”), and a reward (i.e., “satisfaction”)?
