Meta reportedly plans to hire former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman to provide strategic oversight for the newly formed Superintelligence Team.
Key Details:
Meta officially finalized a $14.8 billion all-cash deal to acquire a 49% stake in Scale AI, which specializes in creating high-quality, labeled datasets to train advanced AI models.
Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang has also joined Meta to lead the new Superintelligence Team, which is pursuing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): machines that can think, reason, and learn in a way that’s generally smarter than humans.
Now, Meta might hire former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman to help shape the social media giant’s long-term strategy around AI infrastructure to efficiently achieve AGI.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently said Meta offered $100 million signing bonuses to poach OpenAI staff for the Superintelligence Team.
Why It’s Important:
Meta generates roughly $3.44 billion in positive free cash flow per month as of early 2025. In other words, after paying all operating expenses (e.g., rent, salaries, and supplies) and making necessary long-term investments (e.g., datacenter construction and nuclear energy deals), Meta still has $3.44 billion left over every month.
This financial position enables Meta to make bold, strategic, and aggressive bets on the future of AI. According to McKinsey & Co. (McK), AI software and services could generate up to $23 trillion in annual economic value by 2040.

🤯ChatGPT’s Impact on Your Brain
The MIT Media Lab recently published “Your Brain on ChatGPT,” which explores the mental trade-offs of using conversational chatbots.
Key Details:
54 participants were assigned to three groups:
Group #1: Used ChatGPT
Group #2: Used Google Search
Group #3: Used Just Their Brain
They utilized ElectroEncephaloGraphy (EEG) to record each participant’s brain activity levels to assess their cognitive engagement when researching, writing, and reviewing essays.
83% of Group #1 couldn’t quote a single sentence from any of the essays they’d written just minutes earlier.
Even scarier, 100% of Group #1 had no idea their spatial memory was weakened.
For example, Group #1 experienced a decline in their ability to remember where specific sentences or certain sections were located.
They referred to this as “cognitive debt,” which essentially means you’re borrowing against future cognitive capacity for short-term convenience.

Our ability to think critically is crucial to making the right choices in life. It comes from the Greek word “Κριτικός (i.e., Kritikos),” which means “able to judge or discern.” If you frequently rely on ChatGPT to generate ideas or summarize texts, you risk shifting from an active critical thinker to a passive information consumer.
Unlike Search Engines like Google Search, which require sifting through websites, analyzing information, and synthesizing content, ChatGPT generates content within seconds. When we reduce the need to analyze information, we risk outsourcing critical thinking to ChatGPT.
