🧳Meta’s Former Chief AI Scientist Shares Why He Quit

One of the “Godfathers of AI,” Yann LeCun, just shed light on why he decided to depart from Meta after more than a decade.
Key Details:
To support MSL, Meta’s been poaching top-tier AI researchers by offering pay packages of up to $300 million. For instance, 24-year-old AI researcher Matt Deitke was given $250 million in stock and cash over four years, with $100 million guaranteed within the first year.
Former Chief AI Scientist Yann LeCun recently decided to leave Meta because Wang is “young” and “inexperienced.” He also added: “A lot of people have left, a lot of people who haven’t yet left will leave.”
Why It’s Important:
Despite Meta laying off roughly 600 employees to achieve a startup-like operation that’s more agile and less overly bureaucratic, Wang has reportedly complained privately that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s micromanagement is “suffocating progress.”
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman even slammed Meta’s recruiting tactics: “Missionaries will be Mercenaries. What Meta’s doing will lead to very deep cultural problems.”

At CES 2026, NVIDIA publicly debuted “Alpamayo 1,” which equips self-driving cars with the ability to think and reason through complex driving scenarios.
Key Details:
It consists of four components:
🔴 Text Encoder: Converts stop signs, speed limits, and street names into numerical representations.
🟡 Image Encoder: Converts RADAR, LiDAR, and camera captures into numerical representations.
🟢 Encoder Fuser: Creates unified numerical representations of the dynamic driving environment.
⚪️ Decision Decoder: Converts the unified numeral representations into driving commands that “Alpamayo 1” can understand.
Why It’s Important:
The biggest challenge with autonomous vehicles is generalization: the ability of self-driving cars to navigate new roads with unseen traffic lights, stop signs, lane lines, cars, cyclists, and pedestrians.
When a self-driving car encounters a busy four-way stop, it sounds like a simple everyday driving scenario. In reality, it’s a complex challenge that involves illegal U-turns, sudden braking, and jaywalking pedestrians. “Alpamayo 1” helps self-driving cars understand the general concept of these complex challenges so they can handle countless different traffic conditions at countless different four-way stops.
