Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced a $2.2 billion investment in Malaysia to support the country’s AI developments and cloud infrastructure.

Key Details:

  • Microsoft will invest $2.2 billion over the next four years to support Malaysia’s digital transformation.

  • Microsoft’s $2.2 billion investment includes:

    1. Fueling AI developments and cloud infrastructure in Malaysia.

    2. Creating AI-skilling opportunities for over 200,000 Malaysian citizens.

    3. Supporting the growth of Malaysia’s developer community.

  • Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella explained: “Our investment in digital infrastructure and skilling will help Malaysian businesses, communities, and developers apply the latest technology to drive inclusive economic growth and innovation across the country.”

Why It’s Important:

  • According to Kearney, AI developments could contribute nearly $1 trillion to Southeast Asia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2023, and Malaysia could capture up to $115 billion.

  • This digital infrastructure investment fuels Microsoft’s plan to establish a data center region (i.e., a physical location that stores computing machines and hardware equipment) in the country.

⚙️Google Chrome’s Gemini Shortcut

Google announced a new Chrome shortcut that enables users to initiate conversations with Gemini within the browser’s address bar.

Key Details:

  • Users simply type “@gemini,” followed by a prompt in Chrome’s desktop address bar, to receive a response from Google’s Gemini.

  • This AI-enabled feature builds upon existing Chrome shortcuts and Gemini integrations in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

  • For example, Google’s Workspace Labs is rolling out a “Gemini in Google Docs” feature that adds a Gemini side panel to Google Docs to refine content, summarize files from Gmail, and offer creative ideas.

  • This shortcut highlights Google’s efforts to integrate Gemini into Chrome’s browsing experience.

  • The “@gemini” shortcut streamlines interacting with Google Gemini. Instead of navigating to Google Gemini, users can access the conversational chatbot directly within Chrome.

Google unveiled Med-Gemini, a suite of multimodal AI models fine-tuned for medicine and healthcare.
