💻Microsoft Plans on Adding AI to Windows Apps
Microsoft is experimenting with implementing AI models into apps like Photos, Snipping Tool, and Paint on Windows 11.
Key Details:
For the Photos app, AI functionality would enable users to remove stray shadows, trim unwanted elements, or add objects to enhance themes.
The Snipping Tool would incorporate Optical Character Recognition (OCR), allowing Windows to identify text in screenshots for quicker clipboard copying.
Why It’s Important:
Microsoft is enhancing existing apps with AI models to provide more product offerings for current users.
Instead of developing new platforms to target early adopters, Microsoft’s embedding AI into high-usage applications to speed up mass adoption.
NVIDIA
👻Nvidia Earnings Scare AMD
During an earnings report on Wednesday, Nvidia announced their quarterly sales are likely to rise 170%, displaying the company’s dominance in the AI chip market.
Key Details:
Developers at major companies can’t get enough of Nvidia’s processors. Demand is surging for Large Language Model (LLM) projects.
Revenue in the current quarter is projected to jump 170%, or roughly $16B.
Nvidia’s shares rose more than 2% on Thursday.
AMD and Intel, Nvidia’s main rivals in the GPU market, fell 7% and 4% following Nvidia’s fiscal second-quarter earnings report.
Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft are buying Nvidia’s next-generation processors, altering the company’s adjusted gross margin from 25.3% to 71.2% in the same period.
Why It’s Important:
Nvidia’s continued success signals a shift in the market for data center chips.
The most important aspect of a data center buildout is no longer Central Processors (CPUs) built by AMD or Intel.
Instead, it’s Nvidia’s AI-accelerating GPUs that companies are purchasing.
