Microsoft recently announced the Copilot key, a new keyboard feature that provides quick access to Microsoft’s AI-powered Windows Copilot.

Key Details:

  • The Copilot key launches the Windows Copilot built into Windows 11, offering a conversational chatbot to answer queries or perform actions.

  • Microsoft aims to streamline accessibility to AI applications as the technology becomes more relevant for completing daily tasks.

  • Copilot provides efficient ways to improve productivity and creativity. Users can access everyday apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams to draft emails or summarize complex texts.

Why It’s Important:

  • Introducing the Copilot key marks the first major change to the Windows PC keyboard in three decades. Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president and consumer chief market officer at Microsoft, explained: “Copilot will be the entry point into the world of AI on PC.”

  • Microsoft doesn’t have the ecosystem to create a life-impacting deployment. They’re not in your pocket or on your wrist. Microsoft hopes you pick up their PC and only interact with their services on various third-party devices.

  • Custom GPTs don’t require coding experience. A custom GPT can be trained through a cookbook collection to answer questions about ingredients for specific recipes.

  • The ability for users to discover, share, and profit from custom GPTs marks a crucial shift for OpenAI by amplifying discoverability and implementing a new community-based component to the platform.
