🎓 More Than Half of Teens Use Chatbots for Schoolwork

The Pew Research Center published “How Teens Use and View AI,” surveying 1,458 U.S. teens ages 13 to 17 to examine their everyday AI habits.
Key Details:
64% of teens have used chatbots at least once. Of those, 57% have used them to “search for information,” 54% have used them for “help with homework,” and 47% have used them for “fun or entertainment.”
Only 51% of parents believe their teenager uses AI, while 40% say they’ve never even discussed AI with their teenager. It’s referred to as the “parent perception gap.”
Teens are far more likely to say chatbots are helpful for schoolwork, rather than unhelpful. It’s referred to as the “study buddy effect.” In fact, 25% of all teens say chatbots have been “extremely or very helpful for completing their schoolwork.” Interestingly, 59% of teens believe classmates use chatbots to cheat.
Why It’s Important:
Teens tend to see AI as a “personal positive.” More specifically, 36% of teens believe AI will have a positive impact on their personal lives over the next 20 years, while only 15% foresee negative impacts. 34% of those who foresee negative impacts cite loss of critical thinking as a top concern.
Our ability to think critically is crucial to making the right choices. It comes from the Greek word “Κριτικός” (i.e., “Kritikos”), which means “able to judge or discern.” If we rely on AI to do everything, we risk shifting from active critical thinkers to passive information consumers who blindly follow what isn’t fully understood.

🔥 OpenAI’s Planned Cash Burn Is Insane

OpenAI reportedly raised a $110 billion late-stage private financing round at a $730 billion pre-money valuation.
Key Details:
OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar explained that available compute directly correlates with revenue growth. In other words, when compute grew by 9.5x from 2023 to 2025, revenue also grew by 10x from 2023 to 2025.
Amazon invested $50 billion in exchange for OpenAI adopting AWS’s “Trainium3,” a U.S.-made advanced AI chip built on 3nm technology, which offers higher transistor density to deliver more computing power with faster processing speeds.
Why It’s Important:
OpenAI’s losing about 3x more money than it’s making, expecting to burn through $115 billion through 2029. 95% of those relying on ChatGPT, which generates roughly 70% of OpenAI’s recurring revenue, aren’t paying a dime.
OpenAI’s preparing to pursue an IPO in the second half of 2026 that would value the ChatGPT maker at “up to $1 trillion.” For context, a $1 trillion valuation would solidify OpenAI as the 12th most valuable publicly traded company on the planet.
