AI REGULATIONS

📦NVIDIA and Anthropic Clash Over Export Controls

NVIDIA has reportedly criticized Anthropic’s support of export controls on U.S.-made advanced AI chips.

Key Details:
  • The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) created the “Framework for Artificial Intelligence Diffusion (FAID),” which highlights the importance of export controls on U.S.-made advanced AI chips.

  • Anthropic recently supported FAID, with the belief that maintaining America’s compute advantage through export controls is essential to national security.

  • Anthropic even mentioned that China has established sophisticated smuggling operations to acquire hundreds of millions of dollars worth of U.S.-made advanced AI chips. For example, hiding them in “prosthetic baby bumps” or packaging them “alongside live lobsters.”

  • A NVIDIA spokesperson said Anthropic “should focus on innovation and rise to the challenge, rather than tell tall tales.” They also said, “America can’t manipulate regulations to capture victory in AI.”

Why It’s Important:
  • NVIDIA’s stock market value sank nearly 7% after it announced it could take a $5.5 billion hit if it’s unable to sell AI hardware to China. So, NVIDIA’s economically incentivized to disagree with Anthropic.

  • On the other hand, export controls on U.S.-made advanced AI chips hinder China’s AI developments, helping Anthropic maintain a competitive edge. So, Anthropic’s competitively incentivized to support FAID.

    3. Simple and Secure AI Payments: You can set spending limits for specific transactions or within certain timeframes.

  • Visa believes that everyone will have AI Agents to browse, select, purchase, and manage on their behalf.

  • Visa is collaborating with major players in the AI space to deploy VIC, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral AI, and Perplexity AI.

Why It’s Important:
  • OpenAI recently launched a new shopping feature allowing Free, Plus, and Pro users to buy products directly within ChatGPT search.

  • It looks like the next phase of e-commerce is AI-commerce, with AI Agents recommending what products you should purchase.
