Researchers at the University of LĂŒbeck in Germany developed âPRAIM,â an AI system that helps radiologists identify breast cancer in Mammograms.
Key Details:
Mammograms are an X-Ray of the breast, used to check for signs of breast cancer in the breast tissue.
The AI system analyzes the Mammograms to identify subtle abnormalities in the breast tissue, such as unusual densities, distortions, or calcifications.
It involved 119 radiologists across 12 hospitals, with 463,094 women getting Mammograms from July 2021 to February 2023.
Radiologists using âPRAIMâ achieved a breast cancer detection rate of 6.7 per 1,000, which is 17.6% higher than traditional Mammogram detections.
Why Itâs Important:
The AI system reduced each radiologistâs workload by enabling 43% faster breast cancer detections at 16 seconds per Mammogram.
âPRAIMâ highlights the impact AI developments have on the ability to diagnose, prevent, and treat medical issues.
