DeepSeek-R1 outperformed OpenAI o1 at a fraction of the cost with half the computational resources, including fewer cutting-edge GPUs. NVIDIA relies on AI firms and their need for cutting-edge GPUs to power AI projects.
Huang explained that regardless of how efficient AI firms become at training Reasoning Engines, as shown with DeepSeek-R1, they still need cutting-edge GPUs for Test-Time Scaling, which allocates more compute during AI Inference: everything that happens after you enter your prompt.
