🔋Nvidia Unveils New AI Chip
On Tuesday, Nvidia announced a new chip designed to run artificial intelligence models at the SIGGRAPH 2023 conference.
This new blazing-fast processor is called the GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip.
It has 141 gigabytes of next-generation memory and a 72-core ARM central processor.
Jensen Huang, Nvidia President and CEO, said, “We’re giving this processor a boost. This processor is designed for the scale-out of the world’s largest data centers.”
Nvidia also significantly upgraded its Omniverse platform, an AI workbench for customer enterprises, models, and partnerships with Hugging Face and Adobe.
Why It’s Important:
Nvidia currently dominates the market for AI chips, with over 80% market share and 95% of the GPU market for machine learning.
This new chip will help Nvidia suffocate rivals like AMD, Google, and Amazon, which are battling for control of the AI market.
Nvidia claims this new processor will reduce the cost of powering Large Language Models (LLMs).

🇨🇳China Internet Giants Purchase $5B of Nvidia Chips
China’s Internet giants Baidu, ByteDance, and Alibaba are rushing to acquire high-performance Nvidia chips to continue their AI ambitions.
These companies have ordered $1B worth of 100,000 A800 processors from Nvidia. Chinese groups also purchased $4B worth of graphics processing units (GPUs).
The A800 GPU is a weakened version of Nvidia’s cutting-edge A100 GPU for data centers. These recent purchases are fueled by fears that the US will impose new export controls.
China believes the Biden administration is considering new export restrictions, which would cause a GPU shortage, forcing companies to halt Large Language Model (LLM) projects.
Why It’s Important:
Nvidia’s GPUs are the hottest commodity among the world’s largest companies. They provide computing power for AI projects.
China doesn’t possess the correct infrastructure or knowledge to produce these chips. So, without stockpiled Nvidia chips, they can’t pursue training AI models.
