🗣️ OpenAI Blames Microsoft for Business Customer Struggles

OpenAI’s newly appointed Chief Revenue Officer, Denise Dresser, sent a memo to staffers noting that Microsoft “restricted our access” to business customers.

Key details:
  • Dresser outlined how OpenAI’s strategic alliance with Microsoft has been “foundational to our success, but it’s also limited our ability to meet business customers where they are.” In other words, Microsoft helped OpenAI scale rapidly, but it’s also made things less flexible.

  • OpenAI was originally founded as a non-profit organization before adding a “for-profit arm” called OpenAI LP in March 2019. OpenAI LP allowed investors a capped return if OpenAI succeeded. However, any money made beyond that capped return was funneled back into the non-profit organization.

  • In March 2025, OpenAI raised a $40 billion Series F funding round at a $300 billion valuation. However, SoftBank Group Inc.’s $30 billion investment was contingent on OpenAI restructuring the for-profit arm into a Delaware PBC because it removes the capped return limitation.

  • Microsoft has invested over $13 billion in OpenAI since July 2019 for a 20% cut of OpenAI’s revenue until 2030. As a result, OpenAI couldn’t convert into a Delaware PBC without Microsoft’s approval. After heated negotiations, Microsoft now holds a 27% stake in OpenAI, with OpenAI pledging to purchase $250 billion of Microsoft Azure services.

Key takeaways:
  • In February 2026, Amazon invested roughly $50 billion in OpenAI in exchange for its adoption of AWS’s Trainium3 and access to Amazon Bedrock.” Since announcing this multi-year strategic partnership, “inbound demand from our business customers has been frankly staggering,” explained Dresser. This comment highlights how Enterprise AI demand is directly tied to distribution.

  • Anthropic serves about 300,000 business customers, with those paying $100,000 annually growing nearly sevenfold this past year. Even crazier, around 1,000 of those business customers are spending $1,000,000 annually on Claude. OpenAI’s pivoting to focus on steady, sustainable growth with early profitability through business demand, capitalizing on high-value business customers with a willingness to pay.

🫀 AI Catches Heart Failure Fives Years Early

Oxford’s Radcliffe Department of Medicine recently developed AI-HF,” which accurately predicts a person’s chance of suffering from heart failure at least five years in advance.

Key details:
  • Heart failure is a progressive condition that occurs when the heart muscle can’t pump blood efficiently enough to meet the body’s needs. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to detect because the earliest indicators can be confused with natural aging.

  • AI-HF analyzes the fat around the heart, called epicardial fat, leveraging medical imaging like routine CT Scans to evaluate variations in volume, texture, and composition, which help flag early signs of heart stress. AI-HF was trained and validated on 72,751 patients across 9 hospital networks.

  • For example, if the fat’s volume accumulates unevenly, it can indicate chronic metabolic stress. While metabolic stress is commonly described as a physiological state that’s triggered by exercise, like the “burn” within muscles when lifting weights, it becomes chronic when the fat constantly secretes signaling molecules, like pro-inflammatory cytokines, that stress the heart muscle.

Key takeaways:
  • It achieved 86% accuracy in predicting the onset of heart failure up to five years before an official clinical diagnosis. Those identified as “high risk” were 20x more likely to suffer from heart failure than those identified as “low risk.”

  • More specifically, roughly 1 in 4 of those identified as “high risk” developed heart failure within the five-year follow-up period. This matters because heart failure is notoriously stealthy, so this technical turning point provides a path to preventive care.
