šŸ—£ļøOpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s New Blog Post on AGI

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman published a new blog post revealing that OpenAI knows how to build Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

Key Details:
  • OpenAI defines AGI as ā€œAI systems that are generally smarter than humans.ā€

  • ā€œWe’re now confident we know how to build AGI,ā€ wrote Altman. ā€œWe’re beginning to turn our aim beyond that to Superintelligence.ā€

  • Altman is referring to OpenAI o3, the company’s latest Reasoning Engine that can break down complex tasks into manageable steps to solve difficult problems in math, coding, and science.

  • OpenAI o3 achieved 88% accuracy on the ARC-AGI benchmark, becoming the first AI model to surpass the 85% accuracy threshold required to outperform humans.

Why It’s Important:
  • Over 1,700 AI experts expect AGI to occur before 2060. However, if Altman’s claims are true, they reshape industry standards by decades.

  • Developers view the ARC-AGI benchmark as the gold standard for evaluating general intelligence in AI models because every complex task requires distinct reasoning skills. In other words, AI models can’t rely on memorized patterns.

AI RESEARCH

šŸŽ£AI Systems Send Highly Personalized Spear Phishing Emails

Image Source: Harvard University (ā€œHarvardā€)/ā€œEvaluating the Capability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to Launch Fully Automated Spear Phishing Campaigns: Validated on Human Subjectsā€/Screenshot

Researchers at Harvard University (ā€œHarvardā€) discovered that AI systems can autonomously craft, test, and send highly personalized Spear Phishing emails.

Key Details:
  • Spear Phishing emails are personalized attacks that target a specific person by exploiting their ā€œroutines, interests, or characteristics.ā€

  • There were 101 participants across four email groups:

    1. Control Group: Sent generic scam emails without any tailored information.

    2. Human Expert Group: Sent Spear Phishing emails created by human experts.

    3. AI-Automated Group: Sent Spear Phishing emails generated entirely by AI systems.

    4. Human Oversight Group: Sent Spear Phishing emails generated by AI systems with human oversight.

  • The Control Group had a 12% Click Rate, while the Human Expert Group and the AI-Automated Group had a 54% Click Rate.

  • The AI-Automated Group performed 350% better than the Control Group.

Why It’s Important:
  • Spear Phishing emails are usually costly, time-consuming, and don’t scale well.

  • However, AI systems drastically reduce the costs of Spear Phishing emails while maintaining an excellent Click Rate at scale.
