💥Microsoft Fuels AI Ambitions With Nuclear Power
Microsoft signed a historic 20-year deal with Constellation Energy to reopen the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant near Middletown, PA.
Key Details:
Constellation Energy is America’s largest producer of “clean, carbon-free energy.”
The historic 20-year deal will create approximately 3,400 jobs and bring in more than $3 billion in state and federal taxes.
Three Mile Island will be renamed “Crane Clean Energy Center (CCEC)” and is scheduled to reopen by 2028.
AI is creating a surge in energy consumption because of energy-intensive data centers filled with computing hardware required to run AI applications.
Nuclear power is a stable, cost-effective energy source offering continuous energy output. This reliability is crucial for data centers that cannot afford interruptions.
Why It’s Important:
Recent AI-driven power demands are leading Tech Giants to seek nuclear energy solutions. In many regions, the power grid infrastructure isn’t designed to handle the sudden increase in electricity demands.
Former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates recently launched a $1 billion Clean Energy Fund to reopen nuclear power plants with safer nuclear reactors.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman published a personal blog post, “The Intelligence Age,” outlining his vision of an AI-powered future.
Key Details:
The three main takeaways include:
Exponential Progress: AI will accelerate human progress, allowing us to achieve things previously unimaginable.
Societal Intelligence: Society itself is a form of intelligence, and AI will enhance this collective capability.
Scaling Up: The more datasets we create and computational power we invest in, the more capable AI becomes.
Altman described the power of AI in three words: ”Deep Learning (DL) worked.” DL teaches computers to process multiple layers of complex patterns in datasets in a way that mimics the human brain.
His boldest statement was, “It’s possible that we’ll have superintelligence in a few thousand days!”
A “few thousand days” (i.e., “3,000 days”) is approximately eight years (i.e., “8.22 years”). Simply put, Altman predicts we’ll have superintelligence within the next decade.
