OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever launched Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), a company focused on developing ways to reduce the long-term risks of âsuperintelligentâ AI models.
Key Details:
Sutskever was OpenAIâs Chief Scientist and Superalignment Team co-leader before departing the company to pursue personally meaningful projects.
The Superalignment Team was built to address the question: âHow do we ensure AI systems much smarter than humans follow human intent?â
After resigning as co-leader of the Superalignment Team, Jan Leike posted on X: âSafety culture and process have taken a backseat to shiny products.â
Sutskever started SSI Inc. to develop Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) with âsafety, security, and progress insulated from short-term commercial pressures.â
Sutskever is starting the company with Daniel Gross, who oversaw Appleâs search engine efforts, and Daniel Levy, who led the Optimization Team at OpenAI.
Why Itâs Important:
Sutskever explained that when implementing current AI models, âYou talk to it, you have a conversation, and youâre done.â
SSI Inc. is fixated on general-purpose autonomous intelligent systems that perform specific tasks without human intervention. âWeâre talking about a giant super data center thatâs autonomously developing technology,â said Sutskever. âItâs the safety we want to contribute to.â
SSI Inc. still requires capital to build and scale âsuperintelligentâ AI models, requiring investors who want to maximize profits and optimize investment returns.

đMicrosoftâs Florence-2?!

Microsoftâs Azure AI Team introduced Florence-2, a vision foundation model that handles a variety of vision and vision-language tasks, such as captioning and object detection.
Key Details:
Large Language Models (LLMs) are the heart of enterprise operations today. An LLM can provide meeting summaries, write marketing copies, and handle customer service operations.
Florence-2 can use satellite imagery to help corporations track the entire supply chain lifecycle, enabling more accurate material planning and production scheduling.
Florence-2 is trained on a massive dataset called FLD-5B, containing 5.4 billion annotations across 126 million images, allowing for multi-task learning.
Florence-2 has a sequence-to-sequence architecture in which one âlanguageâ (e.g., âimagesâ) is translated into another âlanguageâ (e.g., âtextâ) through a two-step process.
This sequence-to-sequence architecture allows Florence-2 to handle many different tasks by translating between different types of information.

AI RESEARCH
đ§ AI Model Predicts Anxiety Levels
Researchers at the University of Cincinnati developed an AI model that predicts anxiety levels using cognitive traits and contextual variables such as age, employment status, household income, perceived loneliness, and COVID-19 history.
Participants rate a series of emotion-evoking pictures and answer several contextual questions about their age, income level, and employment status.
The AI model extracts 15 âjudgment variablesâ that capture patterns in how participants weigh positive and negative outcomes in decision-making.
The AI model generates a forest of decision trees by leveraging a balanced Random Forest Approach: a Machine Learning (ML) technique that combines multiple decision trees to reach a single result.
The AI model predicted whether participants had higher or lower anxiety levels with up to 81% accuracy.
