Despite rumors that OpenAI will reveal a ChatGPT-powered search engine that rivals Google Search, the startup claims it wonā€™t reveal GPT-5 or a search engine at todayā€™s event.

Key Details:
  • OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted on X: ā€œNot GPT-5, not a search engine, but weā€™ve been hard at work on some new stuff we think youā€™ll love!ā€

  • Influencers speculate that OpenAI will announce Sora improvements, an explicit mode for ChatGPT, and an ā€œAgentic AIā€ demonstration built around GPT-4.

  • ā€œAgentic AIā€ is OpenAIā€™s version of AI agents that take over a userā€™s device to execute multi-step tasks autonomously.

  • The OpenAI community believes the startup will also reveal GPT-4.5 Turbo, offering a larger context window that generates more detailed outputs.

  • This larger context window would allow ChatGPT to process greater amounts of text before generating responses to user queries.

Why Itā€™s Important:
  • OpenAI is managing expectations by addressing rumors and extinguishing claims of GPT-5 or a ChatGPT-powered search engine announcement.

  • OpenAIā€™s ā€œAgentic AIā€ could transform how we interact with AI models by processing data rapidly, analyzing complex queries, and automating tasks across platforms.

Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom announced new agreements to harness the power of AI developments for public services, including reducing traffic jams and providing tax guidance.

Key Details:
  • California is partnering with five companies to create GenAI tools using technologies developed by OpenAI and Anthropic to help the state offer better services to the public.

  • The companies will initiate a six-month internal trial by testing AI tools for state workers to address income inequality, the business climate in California, and traffic jams.

  • The California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) wants AI tools to analyze traffic data and develop solutions to reduce highway traffic.

  • The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) wants AI tools to reduce call center wait times and provide non-English speakers with health and social service benefits.

  • The companies will be paid $1 for their proposals. Nick Maduros, Director of CDTFA, explained: ā€œIf it doesnā€™t serve the public better, weā€™re out $1. Thatā€™s a pretty good deal for Californiaā€™s residents.ā€

Why Itā€™s Important:
  • Governor Newsom proclaims California as a global hub for AI technology, highlighting that 35 of the worldā€™s top 50 AI companies are located in the state.

  • Government agencies require oversight to reduce hallucinations. In New York City, an AI-powered chatbot created by the city to help small businesses generated false guidance, advising companies to violate laws.
