OpenAI, the startup that developed GPT-4 and ChatGPT, is reportedly attempting to infiltrate the entertainment industry in Hollywood by pitching the Sora model to studios, directors, and talent agencies.
Key Details:
Sora is a text-to-video AI model that can create realistic and imaginative scenes from text instructions. Sora can generate videos for up to a minute while maintaining visual quality and adhering to the userās prompt.
OpenAI has scheduled meetings in Los Angeles next week with influential Hollywood entities in the film industry, including studios, media executives, and talent agencies.
OpenAI plans to forge influential partnerships and advocate for integrating its cutting-edge Sora model into the filmmaking process of movies, TV shows, and short films.
Why Itās Important:
Sora viral demonstration videos caused Hollywood titan Tyler Perry to pause his $800 million studio expansion, claiming he doesnāt see āhow the industry survivesā without regulations.
After a 148-day strike, Hollywood screenwriters secured significant guardrails against using AI models to diminish a writerās credit or rights. Now, OpenAI is courting Hollywood, worrying employees in filmmaking roles (e.g., concept artists, storyboard creators, or VFX artists).

Baidu, a Chinese international technology company specializing in internet-related services, products, and AI models, will provide AI applications for Appleās iPhones.
Key Details:
On Monday, Chinese media outlet Cailian Press reported that Baidu was set āto become Appleās local generative AI model provider for the iPhone 16,ā the MacBook computer operating system, and the upcoming iOS 18 software.
Chinese regulators must approve generative AI models before companies release them to the public.
Baiduās Ernie Bot, which interacts in dialogues and creates multimodal content, is one of more than 40 AI models approved by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Nomura analyst Jialong Shi explained: āIf it does come true, it would be a perfect branding campaign for Baidu and its AI product, Ernie Bot.ā
Why Itās Important:
Chinaās strict internal AI regulations, which mandate transparency practices and audits of recommendation algorithms, add a tricky layer for global technology giants. Baidu securing Apple as a client will cement the companyās status as the countryās AI leader.
Despite Appleās successful AI research division that developed the MM1 AI Model, a family of multimodal models that combine visual and language inputs to perform tasks such as image captioning and visual question answering, the company is still willingly partnering with other AI leaders.
