In comparison, Claude Mythos 5 achieved 78.0% capability coverage with 602,260 output tokens, requiring roughly 5x more token usage for slightly better results.

UCSD School of Medicine recently developed MutationProjector,” turning a tumor’s complex genetic profile into accurate cancer treatment response predictions.

  • A tumor isn’t just a mass of cancer cells. It exists with a complex cellular ecosystem of non-cancerous cells that actively interact to suppress the human body’s natural immune system. Luckily, DNA mutations produce abnormal proteins called neoantigens, which act as red flags to help the human body’s immune system distinguish cancer cells from healthy tissue and destroy the tumor. Unfortunately, a tumor’s complex cellular ecosystem actively evolves to hide these red flags.

  • MutationProjector was trained on genomic data from over 30,000 tumors across more than 10 solid cancer types to uncover tangible correlations between DNA mutations and tumor treatment effectiveness. In simple terms, it helps predict how a patient’s tumor will respond to different cancer treatments to identify targeted therapies that increase the patient’s likelihood of survival.

  • “Many cancer mutations are individually rare, which makes them difficult to study one at a time,” said JungHo Kong, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Medicine. “By pretraining on a large collection of tumors and integrating molecular network knowledge, MutationProjector can detect patterns that would be easy to miss with conventional biomarker approaches.”
