🎮AI Creates DOOM Video Game

Google DeepMind researchers developed “GameNGen,” an AI-powered game engine that generates interactive video game environments.

Key Details:

• Video games are manually written around the following Game Loop:

  1. Gather User Inputs

  2. Update Game State

  3. Render It to Screen Pixels

• This Game Loop creates the illusion of an interactive virtual world for the player.

• However, the hardware just emulates the manually written video game software.

• “GameNGen” can create entirely new video game worlds in real-time tailored to each player’s decisions, including levels, characters, and gameplay mechanics.

• “GameNGen” can interactively simulate the classic video game DOOM at over 20 frames per second on a single Tensor Processing Unit (TPU).

• “GameNGen” is the first AI-powered game engine to generate playable video games in real-time without any underlying manually written software.

• It can theoretically generate infinite video game worlds, ensuring there’s always something new to explore.

💵OpenAI’s $103 Billion Valuation?!

OpenAI is reportedly raising a new funding round that would value the startup at more than $100 billion.

Key Details:

• Private documents show that OpenAI shareholders plan to sell their shares at a fixed price to outside investors, which would value the startup at $103 billion.

• Thrive Capital is leading the new funding round and will invest $1 billion.

• Tech Giant Microsoft also plans to participate in the new funding round.

• It’s important to note that investors don’t own any private equity since OpenAI is technically a non-profit organization.

• In 2019, OpenAI transitioned from a non-profit structure to a “capped profit” framework called OpenAI LP to “raise investment capital and attract employees with startup-like equity.”

• Microsoft currently holds a 49% stake in OpenAI, having invested $13 billion into the startup since 2019.

• OpenAI’s annualized revenue (i.e., how much money a startup expects to earn over a year) reportedly surpassed $3.4 billion earlier this year.

• However, OpenAI is projected to lose nearly $5 billion by the end of this year and has already spent over $8.5 billion on training AI models.
