OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Legendary Apple Designer Jony Ive just announced “io,” a new company focused on creating innovative AI Hardware.
Key Details:
Ive formed a creative collective called “LoveFrom,” several years ago with the sole purpose of continuing his passion for design and creativity.
“LoveFrom,” quietly began collaborating with OpenAI to explore building AI-powered devices that create less socially disruptive experiences.
Altman and Ive recently decided to restructure “LoveFrom,” into a new company they both founded called “io,” with OpenAI acquiring it for $6.5 billion.
The all-stock deal is OpenAI’s biggest acquisition to date, gaining Ive’s team of 55 designers, architects, and engineers, which includes 20 former Apple employees led by Tang Yew T., Ex-Lead Designer of the iPhone and Apple Watch.
Why It’s Important:
OpenAI applied for a trademark that lists remotes, glasses, headphones, and smart jewelry for “AI-assisted interaction and simulation.” It also mentions “user-programmed humanoid robots.”
It seems like OpenAI has big plans to build “general-purpose,” “adaptive,” and “versatile” AI Hardware that operates in “dynamic,” “real-world” settings.

FutureHouse just developed “Robin,” a multi-agent system designed to automate scientific research.
Key Details:
“Robin” is comprised of four specialized AI Agents:
Owl: It’s tailored to answer the question: “Has anyone ever done X before?”
Crow: It’s designed to provide quick, concise, and scholarly answers to complex scientific questions.
Falcon: It’s structured to search, synthesize, and analyze scientific literature.
Phoenix: It’s engineered to assist Chemists by proposing novel chemical compounds and planning chemical experiments.
Scientists interact with “Robin” by briefly describing their scientific arguments in natural language.
Then, these four specialized AI Agents evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of those scientific arguments and propose a testable scientific hypothesis to explore them.
Why It’s Important:
Traditional scientific research is highly labor-intensive, requiring months, or even years, of analyzing datasets, reviewing literature, and designing experiments. “Robin” helps automate and accelerate this process.
