🧠OpenAI’s New “ChatGPT Memory” Feature

OpenAI is rolling out a “ChatGPT Memory” feature that allows the conversational chatbot to carry over learnings between conversations.

Key Details:

  • OpenAI is providing “ChatGPT Memory” to a small portion of ChatGPT Free and Plus users this week to collect data on its usefulness.

  • Users can teach ChatGPT to recall specific information by prompting it (e.g., “Remember that I’m a vegetarian when recommending recipes!”).

  • Users can also track memories retained by ChatGPT in “Settings” under “Manage” by selecting “Memory.” All memories can be deleted at once by selecting “Clear ChatGPTs Memory.”

Why It’s Important:

  • Without memory, conversational chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT treat each conversation as entirely new. This shortcoming leads to repetitive interactions where users must re-explain concepts.

  • OpenAI’s “ChatGPT Memory” feature enables conversation history with context awareness, improving personalization and enhancing the user experience.

📱OpenAI + iPhone = AI iPhone?

Apple is reportedly revisiting conversations with OpenAI about integrating the startup’s AI technology into Apple’s iOS ecosystem.

Key Details:

  • Apple has been meeting with various established AI companies to pursue partnerships for on-device conversational chatbot capabilities.

  • The negotiations revolve around licensing OpenAI’s engine to add GenAI features to Apple’s ecosystem or incorporating the startup’s AI models into Apple’s iOS 18 update.

  • This partnership would provide Apple with on-device AI enhancements to improve Siri’s capabilities and streamline mobile tasks like texting friends, calling relatives, adding calendar events, or creating to-do lists.

Why It’s Important:

  • In June, Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) will unveil the company’s comprehensive AI strategy for the iOS 18 update. This strategy will provide proactive features that assist users in their daily lives.

  • Apple has immense negotiating leverage since it holds the keys to providing OpenAI access to over 2 billion devices.
