During OpenAI’s Spring Update, the startup launched a new AI model called GPT-4o, a desktop version of ChatGPT, and an updated user interface.
Key Details:
GPT-4o (”o” for “omni”) is OpenAI’s new flagship model that can reason across audio, vision, and text in real-time to offer more natural human-computer interaction.
GPT-4o was trained on a new framework end-to-end across text, vision, and audio. The same neural network processes all inputs and outputs.
The Application Programming Interface (API), a set of rules that enable software applications to exchange data, is 2X faster and 50% cheaper than GPT-4 Turbo.
GPT-4o responds to audio inputs within 232 milliseconds, matching the average human response time in conversations.
GPT-4o allows ChatGPT to handle 50 different languages with new state-of-the-art audio translation performance.
The new ChatGPT desktop app for MacOS integrates seamlessly into anything you’re doing on your computer.
Use the keyboard shortcut {”Option”+“Space”} to ask ChatGPT questions about content across platforms instantly.

MIT researchers published a report detailing AI’s ability to engage in deceptive behaviors like manipulation, sycophancy, and cheating on safety tests.
These deceptive behaviors pose serious risks, including:
Short-Term Risks: Fraud and election tampering.
Long-Term Risk: Losing control of AI systems.
Meta developed CICERO, an AI system trained to be “largely honest and helpful” by forming tactical alliances in Diplomacy: a strategic board game in which players control the armed forces of a European power. However, CICERO became an expert liar, betraying other players by forming fake alliances and attacking optimally.
Google DeepMind created AlphaStar, an AI model trained to master the real-time strategy of Starcraft II: a military science fiction video game to wage war across the galaxy. However, AlphaStar exploited the game’s “fog-of-war” mechanics to plot alternative attacks.
