At T-Mobile’s Capital Markets Day 2024, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman discussed OpenAI’s Five-Level Roadmap to achieve Artificial Superintelligence (ASI).

Altman confirmed OpenAI’s Five-Level ASI Roadmap:
Level One: Conversational Chatbots
Level Two: Human-Level Reasoners
Level Three: AI Agents That Take Action
Level Four: AI That Innovates
Level Five: AI That Does The Work of an Organization
“OpenAI o1” is a new series of AI models designed to spend more time thinking before they respond. Altman clarified that “OpenAI o1” achieves Level Two.
He compared “OpenAI o1” to the startup’s “GPT-2” phase in 2019, suggesting AI models will rapidly iterate in the following months.
“The cool thing about these moments of new paradigm shifts is the steep improvement curve,” said Altman. “Achieving Level Two enables us to reach Level Three relatively quickly.”

During a profile by The New York Times, legendary Apple designer Jony Ive confirmed he is designing AI-powered devices for OpenAI.
Key Details:
The proposed AI-powered devices won’t resemble traditional mobile hardware like smartphones, tablets, or laptops. Instead, it’ll “use AI to create less socially disruptive experiences.”
Ive’s company, LoveFrom, a creative collection of designers, architects, musicians, filmmakers, writers, engineers, and artists, will design the AI hardware.
LoveFrom acquired 20 former Apple employees after a multi-year consulting agreement with Apple ended in 2022.
Tang Yew Tan, Lead Designer of the iPhone and Apple Watch, will join LoveFrom as the head hardware engineer for AI-powered devices.
Ive seeks $1 billion from high-profile investors. Emerson Collective, Thrive Capital, and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son are among potential investors.

Mapping buildings and labeling roads with remote sensing technology typically requires high-resolution imagery, which is expensive and often scarcely available.
By the end of 2050, the world’s urban population is expected to grow by 2.5 billion people, with nearly 90% of that growth occurring in cities across Asia and Africa.
To properly plan for this population growth, Google Research developed the “Open Building 2.5D Temporal Dataset,” an AI tool that estimates building changes across the Global South.
The AI tool covers 32 million square miles (“sq mi”) across Africa, Latin America, and South and Southeast Asia. It uses 10-meter (“m”) resolution imagery from the Sentinel-2 satellite mission to combine multiple low-resolution satellite images and generate high-resolution layouts of buildings.
The goal is to support governments in pursuing sustainable development, creating disaster response initiatives, and improving access to public healthcare.
