OpenAI’s researchers are developing a new Reasoning Engine called “Strawberry” that autonomously solves the world’s most complex problems.
Key Details:
A Reasoning Engine is a framework that mimics a human’s decision-making capabilities and problem-solving capacity.
“Strawberry” is built on the Self-Taught Reasoner (STaR) network, which teaches a Reasoning Engine to develop the three core “step-by-step” thought processes:
Critical Thinking
Design Thinking
Analytical Thinking
OpenAI is also using “Strawberry” to generate high-quality synthetic training data (i.e., artificially created information) to build a new AI model called “Orion.”
“Orion” reportedly boasts an advanced architecture with more natural, nuanced, and knowledgeable outputs.
Why It’s Important:
According to The Information, OpenAI demonstrated “Strawberry” and “Orion” to American national security officials over the summer.
“Strawberry” and “Orion” could pose national security risks as they accelerate AI advancement to achieve Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

🛒Google DeepMind’s New “Gems” Feature
Google DeepMind rolled out a series of new features for Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users.
Key Details:
“Gemini 1.5 Pro” is a conversational chatbot that can process large amounts of text, images, audio, video, and code.
Google DeepMind’s “Gemini 1.5 Pro” updates improve its ability to solve challenging math problems.
It achieved an 82.6% on the Math Word Problem Solving (MATH) benchmark, which covers 12,500 algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus problems.
A new “Gems” feature creates specialized AI assistants for specific tasks.
For example, “Career Guide” unlocks your career potential with detailed plans to refine your work skills.
Why It’s Important:
These new features directly challenge similar offerings from competitors.
For instance, “Gems” is a direct response to OpenAI’s GPT Store, which allows Plus, Team, and Enterprise users to build and discover custom versions of ChatGPT.

🧠AI Measures What Speeds Up Brain Aging
A newly devised “AI Brian Clock” determines whether a person’s brain is aging faster than their chronological age would suggest.
The study analyzed the resting brain activity of 5,306 participants across 15 countries. These participants were either healthy, had Alzheimer’s disease, or suffered from mild cognitive impairment.
The study leveraged an AI model to filter through large datasets of brain scans and corresponding chronological ages. Then, the AI model calculated the “brain-age gap” for each participant.
This “brain-age gap” is the difference between the participant’s chronological age and their predicted brain age based on the AI model’s analysis of their brain scans.
Participants from developing regions with socioeconomic inequality and exposure to air pollution exhibited bigger gaps between brain age and chronological age.
“The way your brain ages isn’t just about years. It’s about where you live and what you do,” explained Agustín Ibáñez, the study’s lead author and a neuroscientist at Adolfo Ibáñez University (UAI).
