🦾Qualcomm’s New AI Chips
Qualcomm recently announced several new chips designed to run AI software, including Large Language Models (LLMs), without requiring internet access.
Key Details:
Interest in AI applications exploded during Stable Diffusion’s Image Generator and OpenAI’s ChatGPT release in 2022. These generative AI applications require processing power and hardware components like Nvidia’s Graphics Processing Units (GPUs).
Qualcomm now offers the Snapdragon X Elite chip for PCs or laptops and the Snapdragon Series 8 Gen 3 for premium Android phones.
Snapdragon X Elite is a high-end performance chip designed for Windows laptops. Key features include 12 Oryon CPU cores with a dual-core boost of up to 4.3GHz. It outperforms Apple’s M2 Chip and surpasses Intel’s x86 processors.
Snapdragon Series 8 Gen 3 is designed for smartphones and mobile devices. Key features include 8K HDR video, 5G Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, and a 20% increase in power efficiency relative to competing models.
Why It’s Important:
Future applications, like a personal voice assistant, could use an AI model on the device by leveraging its processor for easy queries, streamlining access to pressing questions.
A smartphone’s ability to run AI applications on the device itself offloads the expensive cloud computing required for inference capabilities.

📸D-ID’s Photo Conversion App
D-ID, the company leveraging artificial intelligence to create unique videos, is integrating video technology into an interactive mobile app.
Key Details:
D-DI’s Creative Reality Studio allows users to upload pictures and transform them into animated videos. The company initially gained success with Deep Nostalgia, an AI tool that animates the faces of long-lost relatives.
D-DI decided to migrate to mobile users by developing an app available in the App Store or Google Play. The app transforms a photo into a digital person who presents monologues.
The app provides 119 languages, gender voice options (e.g., male, female, etc.), and tone of voice (e.g., cheerful, excited, friendly, hopeful, sad, shouting, etc.). The mobile service is subscription-based, with monthly plans starting at $5.99.
D-ID is exploiting proprietary and open-source AI technologies to power its platforms.
Why It’s Important:
This AI platform can be used for corporate training and education, company communication, and product marking for sales efforts.
The app enables access to video generation, reducing the cost of production at scale and allowing the flexibility to create videos anywhere.
