Microsoft Research developed ā€œBioEmu-1,ā€ which predicts how Proteins wiggle, bend, and fold.

  • Proteins do most of the work within our cells to maintain the structure, function, and regulation of our bodyā€™s organs (e.g., heart, muscles, and skin).

  • Proteins arenā€™t static; they constantly wiggle, bend, and fold. These movements are crucial to their function. For example, Myosin relies on bending to initiate muscle contractions.

  • ā€œBioEmu-1ā€ predicts these movements by generating Structural Ensembles: the range of possible shapes a Protein can adopt.

Why Itā€™s Important:
  • Imagine scientists are developing a new drug to combat a disease. If they inhibit a Target Protein in the human body, it could alleviate the symptoms of this disease.
