Nvidia, Dell Technologies, and Super Micro Computer are collaborating to build a factory for xAI’s supercomputer, which will train and scale the company’s AI projects.

Key Details:
  • Elon Musk’s xAI focuses on building AI models that accelerate human scientific discovery to advance “our collective understanding of the universe.”

  • xAI offers a conversational chatbot called Grok-1.5 and a multimodal AI model called Grok-1.5V to process visual information like charts, diagrams, documents, and screenshots.

  • Musk recently diverted a $500 million shipment of Nvidia H100 Tensor Core GPUs to power xAI’s AI projects.

  • Dell Technologies is assembling half the server racks for xAI’s supercomputer.

  • Super Micro Computer is providing liquid-cooling solutions to enhance energy efficiency, improve equipment reliability, and cut costs.

Why It’s Important:
  • Training AI models such as xAI’s Grok-1.5 requires tens of thousands of power-hungry processors in short supply.

  • In X Spaces, Musk explained that training Grok-2 took over 20,000 Nvidia H100 Tensor Core GPUs. Musk estimates that Grok-3 will require 100,000 Nvidia H100 Tensor Core GPUs.

ENDIATX

💊Swallowable Robots Enter Clinical Trials

Endiatx, a medical technology company developing robot pills for telemedicine, pioneered a swallowable robot called “PillBot.”

Key Details:
  • “PillBot” is 13mm by 30mm and transmits high-resolution video at 2.3 megapixels per second.

  • Simply put, “PillBot” is a pill-sized robot with a camera and propellers that the patient swallows.

  • Controlled remotely by a doctor, “PillBot” navigates the patient’s stomach and transmits a high-resolution video feed in real time.

  • Endiatx CEO Torrey Smith explained that “PillBot” is a “fountain of cheap data inside the human body.” He intends to offer data services to help fuel AI models in the medical field.

  • “PillBot” officially entered clinical trials, and Endiatx’s ultimate goal is to secure Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval and launch commercially in the U.S. by 2026.

Why It’s Important:
  • Examining the Gastrointestinal (GI) tract requires endoscopy, a medical procedure where a doctor inserts a long, flexible tube with a camera called an endoscope into the body.

  • “PillBot” offers a less invasive alternative, potentially making the process more comfortable for patients.

  • Medical companies can leverage “PillBot” data to train AI algorithms. The AI models can then analyze the data, seek patterns, and identify abnormalities.

AI RESEARCH

🦎Meta’s Four New AI Models

Meta’s Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) Group published an array of new open-source AI models that complete multimodal language tasks or detect synthetic speech.

The Five Main Takeaways:
  1. AudioSeal: An audio watermarking AI model that detects AI-generated speech.

  2. Chameleon: A new family of “early-fusion token-based” AI models with outputs containing mixed sequences of both images and text.

  3. Multi-Token Prediction Model (MTPM): Trains language models to predict multiple future words at once.

  4. Joint Audio and Symbolic Conditioning for Temporally Controlled Text-to-Music Generation (JASCO): A controllable text-to-music AI model that generates high-quality music samples conditioned on global text descriptions and fine-grained local controls.

  5. PRISM Dataset: Maps the sociodemographic and stated preferences of 1,500 diverse participants from 75 countries. The dataset maps each person’s preferences and fine-grained feedback to 8,011 live conversations with 21 different LLMs.
