🚘Tesla Files Four Patents for Wireless Charging System

Elon Musk’s Tesla filed four patents for a wireless charging system to power the carmaker’s Robotaxi plans.

Key Details:
  • The four filed patents outline an innovative smart technology structure equipped with temperature sensors and leakage prevention frameworks for adapting to various wireless charging conditions.

  • It highlights a ground pad (i.e., transmitter coil) and vehicle pad (i.e., receiver coil) that rely on inductive charging coils to transfer energy wirelessly through Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs).

  • The Robotaxi plans involve building a fully autonomous Tesla without a steering wheel or pedals.

  • Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) is powered by large volumes of Neural Networks (NNs) trained on driving data, such as handling turns, obstacles, and speed adjustments.

  • Tesla Vision leverages a network of cameras and Computer Vision frameworks to self-park, auto-lane change, and navigate traffic.

  • Computer Vision enables computers to interpret, analyze, and extract visual data.

Why It’s Important:
  • If Robotaxis can charge wirelessly, they could autonomously operate almost endlessly without human intervention.

  • Autonomous vehicles threaten ride-sharing services and trucker driver job security. Over-the-air updates, self-driving capabilities, and wireless charging systems are inconceivable for legacy carmakers.

Weave announced “Isaac,” the world’s first personal robot that’s built for the home.

Key Details:
  • “Isaac” will autonomously tidy up endless messes, fold your laundry, and care for your house while you’re away.

  • “Isaac” responds to direct voice commands or text descriptions through a user-friendly app.

  • When “Isaac” isn’t needed, the personal robot’s camera turns off as it folds into an enclosure included in your order.

  • Weave plans to list “Isaac” for $59,000, or 48 monthly installments of $1,385.

Why It’s Important:
  • “Isaac” can organize desks, rearrange cabinets, fold laundry, detect when pets require meals, and locate lost items like your keys, wallet, or sunglasses.

  • You can also request a “Remote Op,” which allows a Weave operator to remotely manage, monitor, and control your “Isaac” for specific tasks.

AI OPINIONS

🗣Broadcom CEO Says GPUs Aren’t in AI’s Future

During a Q3 2024 Earnings Call, Broadcom CEO Hock E. Tan explained: “I used to think that general-purpose merchant silicon would win…But like you, I flipped my view.”

“General-purpose merchant silicon” refers to semiconductors like Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) designed for various applications.

GPUs are specialized hardware built to manage heavy computational workloads through parallel processing (i.e., performing mathematical calculations simultaneously).

When we click, swipe, type, or speak to electronic devices, semiconductors search, quantify, optimize, and deliver our desired results.

Tan believes Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) offer superior performance and power efficiency over GPUs for specific AI applications.

ASICs are specialized chips designed for very specific uses. However, they can’t be reprogrammed after they’re manufactured.
